ALA! Pt. 1

Jul 02, 2007 21:32

This post is long overdue, and many have heard some of my stories by now, but I promised a post about the ALA Annual Conference and here it is.

Driving in DC reminded me that I am very happy to live in my smallish city where it isn't hard to get around, and parking at your hotel doesn't cost $23.00 a day, and the hotels don't charge for wireless ( Read more... )

Oh. Oh. Oh. Ohhhhhhhh. *closes her eyes in bliss at the description*

What is Ann Rinaldi working on next?? Is it another historical fiction?

DC is one of my favorite cities. Un-free wireless is not one of my favorite things.

This Rinaldi takes place in PA in pre-Civil War days and tells about a family who has become involved in the Underground Railroad. It's called The Ever-After Bird and one of the main characters is an ornithologist.

Can you feel the envy coming out in waves from me? I used to love the 'Wolf Tower' books by Tanith Lee - you have an advance reading copy of Ursula Le Guin's new book? *makes a note to go and re-read gifts and voices* You have an advance reading copy of Gail Carson Levine's new book!?

Judy Blume sounds wonderful.

Looking forward to your next post!

I still haven't gotten my hands on Voices but I LOVED Gifts. The new one is called Powers and features a character named Gavir, who is a house slave. It sounds as if he is one of the people with the "gifts" but that he's been seperated from his people.

The Tanith Lee, Indigara is a novella put out by Firebirds and it looks like it is a contemprary SciFi story for younger readers. This is just from looking at the cover, though.

GCL's new book is a sequel to Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg, which I have not read. It's called Fairy Haven and the Quest for the Wand.

Hey, HOMG! I had a dream about a polka dot suit man stalker the other day. I told Bear here in a comment: http://fabricalchemist.livejournal.com/194545.html?view=732401#t732401

I'm NOT MAKING THIS UP. COINCIDENCES ARE GETTING FREAKY.

Oooh, this was so fun to read. So so glorious

What's the new Bloody Jack book? Not that I've read the most recent one yet, but I'm sure Mariah will want to know.

I haven't read Looking For Alaska yet. And I'm not in love with him. I just admire his intelligence and hotness from afar.

The new book is called Mississippi Jack: Being an account of the further waterborne adventures of Jacky Faber, Midshipman, Fine Lady, and the Lily of the West. It is an enormous book--oversized and 609 pages. Jacky flees to America to hide from the British authorities and meets up with Mike Fink, in a riverboat heading to New Orleans.

I've only read the first book, but I liked it very much. The new one comes out in Sept.
