At this point, my local librarians pick out books especially for me.

I posted Calle's (the nephew) Easter card earlier and I'm fiercely proud of him right now -- he's not even 5 years old and he can spell his own name, that's pretty cool, I think. I learned to read and write when I was 5-ish, and I'm very pleased that Calle seems to have an interest for it. Neither of my cousins did -- my youngest cousin still reads ( Read more... )

I love that "oh, hey!" moment. I'm not even sure how I managed to learn to read--well, in the sense that my first thing I read was a Wonderbread truck, a word I had never seen. I was in my toddler seat or whatever and we passed it on a roadtrip and I was all "Wonderbread!" and everyone else was all "... wait, what? Did you just read that?"

I love that! I love it when kids just randomly start reading without much prompting, I have a cousin who did something similar. Though I have to say, I'm actually pretty proud that I worked for it. As I said, it's the only thing EVER that I really worked for and didn't just give up on halfway through.

Ehm.. I actually learned how to read at age 6, even if you´re saying that neither one of us did. I don't know when I learned how to write, but I wasn't older than 6 when I started reading.
And I learned how to ride a bike when I was 6 or 7 years old. And yeah, you are stubborn.

I was referring to Miranda and Felicia -- at least, I THINK Felicia, I don't remember, but she was like seven or eight, wasn't she? -- mostly because I barely remember when you got into it (pre-teens... bit of a blur). All I know is that we used to swap Sweet Valley twins and Nancy Drew books back and forth.
