Soy makes you sick?

I've been subscribed to veggie123.com's e-mail newsletter for a little while. This morning I get this in the mail:

"DO NOT CONSUME SOY PRODUCTS !! This including your favourite soy milk, soya burgers, soya ice creams, bean curds, tofu, and everything about soya ! Just dont take anything derived from soya beans EXCEPT

I'm sorry, but none of those links are from credible sources. The only scientifically validated claim I have read against soy is that it contains a chemical that inhibits the enzyme responsible for synthesizing two hormones secreted by the thyroid, and can therefore be partially responsible for hypothyroidism.

Are you kidding? Rense.com is totally a credible source. Where else can you get such thorough and unbiased information about mystery space machines, Morgellen's disease, how the Holocaust never happened, and links to informative articles like how Jews are taking over...the porn industry?

Oh, and don't forget the strange, mysterious eternal allure of Adolph Hitler.

Rense.com is completely incredible: they didn't even mention the space MONKEYS in that mystery space machines report!

Oh, you're right. I can't trust a website that'll mention the mystery space machines without even touching upon the mystery space monkey threat!

But we can still trust the other websites, right? like Shirley's Wellness Cafe and the informative articles she provides about the wonders of homeopathy, how vaccines will kill you and everyone you know, and how AIDS isn't really a thing. Despite the fact that my cousin died of AIDS. But I must've imagined that.

Is comes up every so often. The bottom line is too much of anything is harmful. As long as you eat in moderation you can enjoy tofu and the like.

In some individuals, soy can be harmful. Soy has isoflavones that are a synthetic estrogen. If you're at all sensitive to elevated levels of estrogen (like I am), soy will be horrendous for you. If you're having no reactions to soy, then as someone said, just eat it in moderation. Too much of anything is a bad thing.

Well, I always think: Asians have been eating soy since I-don't-know-when... let's face it, that part of the world isn't doing too bad, so maybe the soy scares are the same as all the other food scares. (although this argument is being countered at least in the rense link ( ... )

you do realize that anyone with an internet connection and a grasp of the english language can make a somewhat official looking page and put together a scientific sounding argument for or against something, right? if you were linking to jama or cdc, heck this might be one instance where i'd take a second look at cspi, that would be one thing. i could put together a site this afternoon about how cheap vegans are really a cult bent on destroying christianity and worshipping idols and puppykicking, and within the month i'd bet there would be some chain letter going around about it ( ... )
