if yr reeeeally really broke, go pick up a cake mix. super cheap ones sometimes don't have eggs, milk, etc. in them. that's like $3 at most.
then just add one cup of soda. dark sodas, like coke, pepsi, etc for chocolate cakes, sprite for everything else. DON'T USE DIET.
don't add egg replacer, soy milk, oil, anything it sez. just the soda.
if you buy a can, that's like $1.

voila! $4 cup cakes!

now FROSTING....that's a different matter. yr on yr own.

Several frostings in a tub are vegan. Store brands might be cheap...

All Pillsbury Creamy Supreme flavors are vegan (even the cream cheese flavor!)--the polysorbate 60 isn't animal-derived. My SO and I just eat the chocolate fudge flavor with a spoon when we're feeling trashy. It's pretty cheap, too.

My local co-op, Mustard Seed Market, sells vegan cupcakes =) Whole Foods/Wild Oats might also sell them.

yea i ended up at whole foods. mmm the icing was so creamy. i went back today and splurged for a vegan carrot cupcake - fucking delicious

I did an lj stalk and it appears that you're in Philly, which means you are served by vegan treats in Bethlehem PA. It's entirely likely that they sell vegan cupcakes. It's worth a call.

Yelp also pulled up Gianna's in Society Hill that sells assorted vegan cupcakes. It also mentions Benna's Cafe in South Philly as having vegan cupcakes.

A lot of Whole Foods type stores have bakeries that will make vegan cupcakes, the one in my city will actually sell them for pretty cheap. Worth checking out.
