[ooc; Noooot REALLY breaking hiatus yet, but I wanted to get his emo fail bumped down a bit lest people think that he's always like that.
Which he is.
And not that this post is much better.
But that's not the point.]

[Good morning, network. Have a Phoenix.

Have an incredibly tired sounding Phoenix, who is going to begin this transmission with a weary ( Read more... )

[And in return, have a Koschei. He sounds more curious than anything else. HE HAS NOT HEARD OF THESE THINGS YET.]

Glitch―? [An incredibly brief pause in which he decides that that's not really what he's most interested in.] The time travel required to do that is ...almost impressive, even if it does break several laws of time.

[Another pause, slightly longer this time. Mostly, he realises he didn't actually answer or ...really respond to anything. So:]

―I lean towards 'entertainment', actually.

[THEN ALLOW THIS LAWYER TO EDUCATE YOU. He's been here for a while.]

A...glitch, yes. I don't know if it'll be the same for you, but for many of us, Johto resembles a videogame that was popular back in our own worlds. I remember playing it when I was a kid. We sometimes have...incidents, here, where it seems like the entire world is glitching, as if it really IS a videogame. [A sigh.] So I can't help but think if this might be another one of them...

...it's less "travel" than it is "paradoxes", I think...n-not that I'm very good with that kind of thing.

[Entertainment? For who? Not Phoenix, that's for sure.] Well, if this is based off of a videogame...

Video games. [Why yes, Koschei does sound amused.] Then there could be an argument for this ― that is, what we see around us ― being less displacement, and more a construction, and the people we see around us are merely constructs. [A pause, and he sounds almost disdainful.] AI, perhaps. And the bodies of the displaced are avatars, if you will. What that would mean for our physical selves―. That's another matter entirely. I suppose they could be anywhere or any when. It would at least make the matter of gaining memories from the relative present or future of one's world less awkward.

More often than not, temporal paradoxes require time travel of some description ― or at the very least, time displacement.

[...congratulations, Koshei, most of that spiel just went right over Phoenix's head.]

I...see. That sounds complicated.

A glitch, huh...It's possible. I wish my computer knowledge really applied here, but I've figured out by now that it really doesn't. A glitch of some kind seems to be the logical explanation, though.

[Otacon gave the second question some serious thought, not answering for a minute or two. His Chatot sat on his shoulder, whistling cheerfully.]

I don't know why we were brought here and I don't think we'll ever understand the reason for it. All I know is that I've had a second chance to do some things and opportunities to meet people I never would have otherwise.

Maybe we're here to entertain some cosmic force, maybe it's virtual reality, or maybe it's some mass hallucination. But whatever it is, I think...I think it's a good thing.

I'm not really good with technology, but...remember those three days where we all "passed out" before? I can't help but think that this might be the same...on a much smaller scale, of course.

[A sigh.] I wish logic would actually apply here sometimes, myself...

[...he listens as Otacon says his piece, and there's a bit of a pause before he replies.] I hope it's a good thing, too.

...it's really trying hard not to be, though...

I remember, yeah. I wish I had any real answers, but this is way beyond my area of expertise. Even virtual reality shouldn't be this realistic.

[Otacon sighed as well, adjusting his glasses.]

It's not easy, I know. But...that's the way life works anywhere, isn't it? Even the best situations aren't perfect.

We don't have virtual reality anything where I come from. I think this place is pretty surreal whether it's real or not, though.

...of course. It's just been striking me as odd, though; why would someone bring us here if they didn't have a reason for it? I have a bad feeling...

...You mean an epidemic. It sounds more like an epidemic, dumb ass. It wouldn't be anything like a glitch at all, because something like that doesn't really make sense...

[He pauses long enough to let that sink in. When he starts again, he's a little more solemn.]

...I think it matters more how we got here, damn it.

[...you kids and your language. He raises an eyebrow, but doesn't comment on it.] We've had glitches before. I don't see why this couldn't fit in with them.

[Well, at least he can be serious when he puts his mind to it, Phoenix sighs, running a hand through his spikes.] I guess you're right about that. The sooner we find out how we got here, the sooner we can figure out how to go back...

Glitches like what? It doesn't make any more sense if you say it twice. It just makes it much more confusing. Stupid.

[He notices Phoenix's concern but decides to completely ignore it.] ...So you didn't come by ship either, did you?

Glitches, like...you weren't here in October, then, were you? [How is he even supposed to describe them, he wonders...]

...no, no, not at all. I don't think anyone did...?

Phoenix! Hello! I miss you and the others.

I don't know what a glitch is, but I've spoken to a few people and they keep saying something about a game.

Maybe somebody's playing with us.

[At Jack's feed, he switches on his own video, to show a nice view of the ever-a-mess hotel room. With a small green dog gnawing on one of his ties on the bed behind him.]

Hey, Jack. [A grin, despite the exhaustion still in his voice. POOR BABY.] How are things in Violet?

...do you remember the static on Halloween? Those were glitches. And those three days where we all "passed out", apparently -- I think that was one, too.

[The notion of being toyed around with by a higher power does not sit well with Phoenix. He doesn't reply, just clenches his fists against the bedsheets. The Electrike, sensing his agitation, leaves his playtoy behind and meanders over to sit next to Phoenix, staring at the camera with wide, red eyes.]

About the same-- cold, sort of wet. I'm thinking about leaving in a week or so. [Jack is too much of a weenie to set out all on his own again. For now at least.]

So those were glitches, huh? Well. Glitches suck.

[Barney may or may not have expanded Jack's vocabulary a little. However something keeps Jack from going down a grouchier path of conversation...]

--OH! Who's that?

[8U NEW POKEYMANS.]

...oh, I agree. [LE SIGH.

Of course, he's easily distracted by his little pal, too -- glancing to the side, he quirks a little smile and rubs his head.] Oh er -- this is T.D. He hatched from the egg I got on Christmas...say hi to Jack, T.D.

Elec. Tri trike.

I think it's possible, seeing as how we're in a game currently.

Or it may not be and it's sheer coincidence that several people simply went back home and came back at the same time, as unlikely as it sounds.

[voice] cheapblusuits January 10 2011, 15:47:28 UTC
That and the fact that we've had "glitches" before. [He isn't aware that Rhyme might not have been around for that...]

...but I guess it could just be a coincidence.
