Nick and I both grew up in messy households. I'm used to climbing around boxes and piles of stuff, and making decisions about where to eat based on what area is neat enough to sit and do so. I always make a great attempt at keeping a place organized and attractive, and then it devolves. Living in the same house for 12 years means I've had 12 years to fuck this up.

I always get worried about people visiting and want to go out instead. It's also embarrassing to me that I am not a more dedicated and talented housekeeper! I also get really goddamned annoyed with people who (a) try to "help" when they visit, or (b) fuck with my non-obvious messypants organizational scheme. My old housemate would pick things up and move them around, because he didn't see the difference, and then I couldn't find anything. Blargh.

The cats agree that a layer of dirty laundry would be a vast improvement.

I somehow managed to get rid of HALF of my books--HALF! I got $70 for whatever the used bookstore wanted and then I donated the rest of it to Goodwill. I was very proud of myself. I keep acting like we are going to move in preparation for us actually moving, so maybe when that happens, life will be less miserable.
