I just got a 95 on an essay that I was sure sucked ass. I am so incredibly relieved. I am getting an A in this class so far and it has been incredibly challenging. I know exactly what you mean. I am wondering if they stopped teaching grammar about oh, 2-3 years after I was in school, except in maybe super snotty private schools. Because I'm reading final written essay exams (which, granted, are written right then and there, no spell check, preparation, etc, but STILL) from 3rd and 4th year uni students and I wrote better than that in high school. I would have gotten Cs for that crap in high school.

Naw, they still teach grammar and writing, but no one takes it as seriously as they should and no one, I mean NO ONE holds young people accountable for the outcome of their learning. It's always someone else's responsibility or fault.

I could go on and on, and I do admit that there are crappy teachers out there, but most of what is taught isn't rocket science or brain surgery and even with a crappy teacher people can still acquire knowledge and skill if they WANT TO. I know I did and most of my friends did...we all experienced crappy teachers but WE STILL LEARNED because we were expected to.

Now, however, a C is an F, and a B is weak, and only A's make people happy.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop. I'll save this for a blog when I actually start blogging again.
