Some More Movie Nights: Parte Trois

Oct 19, 2015 11:26

It has been a while, but Movie Nights has proceeded.

As my viewing companion noted to me, Live Journal has taken our idea of a shared movie where the viewers may comment upon the movie as it pleases them without bothering anyone in a movie theater and made a community of it.

Good Viewing to them and you are welcome to the idea.

When I was a kid I had a massive crush on James Mason because of a film "Forever Darling" with Lucille Ball. I loved his voice. So I intended to watch "Georgie Girl" but instead watched a Scottish film named "Gregory's Girl" and wondered when James Mason was going to appear. Long story short, I never watched "Georgie Girl" but loved "Gregory's Girl".

I really liked "Frances Ha". I didn't think I would. Despite only seeing two episodes of "Girls" I thought "Frances Ha" would be just like that. I admire actors who make their own careers and Greta is one of them. Though I hope that with "How I Met Your Dad" she can branch out a bit more in terms of scope and humor.

Mason, Mason, where are you going to, Mason... chatchien April 20 2014, 12:38:55 UTC

I love James Mason. I love to look at him when he was young and beautiful. I enjoy him in his maturity, he had a sense of humor and lacked the conceit usually found in Greek God beautiful people.

He made a lot of Gainesborough films in his youth in Britain. He was usually the Cold and Ruthless Earl in the Bodice Rippers or the Evil Highwayman who stole a Woman's Jewels. The Wicked Lady is a film that I can recommend.

Margaret Lockwood is Wicked good! And Mr. Mason is sublime.

I'll have to put Gregory's Girl on the Movie Nights list.

I am watching Miss Gertwig with interest. I don't know how it will work out---she is a woman in Hollywood, but like you, I wish her all the best.

Bodice Ripper + James Mason? I'm in.

It's not a good film and there's definitely no one on the level of James Mason in it. But I liked it as a kid.

Thanks for the warning. I'll have to re-evaluate seeing Gregory Girl, but I am going to watch The Other Woman.

Love your write up about our latest movie night. The best consolation of suffering through a bad film is putting into just the right words what went wrong. Thanks for that!

You're Welcome! It was fun even though the movie failed.

And as you told me: "I have a new appreciation for Cinematographers and directors of photography and camera operators. Wow. Who cares what's going on if you can't see? Who cares if you can see if what you're seeing isn't the story that's being told? "

It is a picture. The viewer is SUPPOSED to be able to see it.
