I've been known to enjoy a rare steak. I'm no vegetarian, even though I've been though as such, because I'm an elliptical carnivore. Given my druthers, I would not choose protein as part of my eatery, not as a conscious choice, but as a preference. I love vegetables and starches. Now don't get me wrong- I have a definate weakness for prime rib. I DO NOT however support killing animals for "fun". It just sickens me.

I don't know if they still do this, but way back in like the 70's when they did this mass snake killing insanity, they would also crown one 'lucky' girl as like... Miss snake killer or something? Its like the miss America competition, but for snake killing. And like these girls would go and on about how they've dreamed about being the miss snake lady all their lives. I agree with you. I am a vegetarian, but that's based on lots of stuff that does *not* preclude farming and eating meat. Or even hunting, though I do have certain problems with it on another level. I don't want to eat factory-raised food, and I don't like meat much anyway, but I don't by any means think it's ethically wrong to put meat of any kind in human mouths.
Er... dirty.
Anyway, double entendres aside, lots of this shit is violence-bonding, like hunting is, like the more violent sports or deliberately sadistic splatter films. It ain't about the snakes. It's about a mob, and a feeling of control. I have no problem, actually, with eating snakes. Or gator. Or whatever. These animals are likely raised under conditions a lot better than cows and chickens are these days. But as a display? It's just gross.
