I have a friend on my other journal who posted about malaise in the VigBean fandom. There is a similarity there, in that you have a long period of intense togetherness (during the filming of LOTR) and since then, very little contact. One thing that makes a difference with our guys is the genuine friendship that persists. It would be difficult to write them if they all hated each other. But I think there is more understanding in this fandom that real people grow and change, and that what we see isn't necessarily the truth.
The other thing that is unique about this fandom is the number of people who have met one another and formed real-life friendships. Obviously, CFTC is partly to thank for that, but there are cons in other fandoms that don't draw people together the way CFTC did. It might be the reason that there isn't a whole lot of wank in the fandom - we see each other as real people rather than computers.
