Going through a box of my Mom's stuff several years ago I found their marriage certificate and his Army discharge. Both of these identified him as Edwin Gordon Somdahl. This is what I always knew to be his name.
I also found his birth certificate. A wonderfully ornate document that identified him as Edvard Gunnar Somdahl.
I'm glad you are able to focus on happy memories of your dad.
My dad lost his parents when he was 17 and 20, and it was a loss for him not to get to know them as adults, and to not get to be something more experienced than a teenager with them. I'm sorry that you suffered that loss too. It's hard.
