Masterpost The weekend went by slugishly, which pleasantly surprised Jack. He spent a lot of the time just sitting around, trying to stay out of the way of their house maid, Mrs. Cook. He enjoyed taking a long bath on Saturday until he pruned up like a raisin and then had a warm bowl of soup to finish the night. Then, the next day, it snowed for the first time that year, and Jack just at in his room and watched during the day until he mom came home and insited they spent time together, so they watched a movie.
He knew that he couldn't evade school again the next day and he honestly had never been as nervous as he was then, but Jack wasn't one to face situations. He didn't want to go back to his classes or even see Kyle. Really, the only person he wanted to see was Rian.
And somewhere deep inside, as conflicting as his feelings were, he wanted so see Alex. But only so he could punch him, square in the jaw and knock his rabbit-y teeth out.
But, just like every other day, as soon as he shut his eyes to sleep, the alarm clock rang. He got up, out of bed and showered, enjoying the hot water since it was supposed to be only thirties all day and the started on his hair. He dressed warm too, zipping up his favorite green hoodie just as Rian pulled up to his house.
Rian chattered almost all the way to school, getting very little from Jack in return; every once in a while he'd just nod or smile a little.
Kyle met him at his locker and they talked a bit about the weekend, mostly general talk and then he was off to math. He spent most of the morning just watching the clock and only hearing blurbs of what the teachers were saying. He felt worn and spent until lunch came around, and then he started to get nervous. He didn't eat, because he was afraid that he wouldn't be able to hold it down, and having everyone in the lunch commons due to the cold temperature wasn't helping. The room felt hot and crowded, not to mention noisey, so he spent a lot of lunch, just letting Rian and Kyle talk and he'd escape to the bathroom every once in a while. Once it came time for English, his stomach was in knots. He literally snuck into the room and took his seat next to Kyle, keeping his eyes down as he got out his homework.
"Hey, Jack," Kyle chirped. "Sight for sore eyes."
Jack offered him a genuine crooked smile, looking over at him. "Yeah, it's kind of nice to see you too."
Kyle seemed happy with that and he started talking about something else and soon, the whole room was full of mumering and general talk of weekend parties.
By the time Alex came into the room, Jack was feeling confident, cocky even and he started the hour by sitting back in his seat and crossing his arms over his chest.
"How was your guy's weekend?" Alex asked, looking pretty tired as he sat down at his desk. He got quite a bit of feed back before he told them to hand up their home work.
Jack grabbed his pencil out of his back pack and started to doodle a bit in his note book as Alex started a lecture, and Kyle grabbed for Jack's homework to pass it up. The hour went on like that.
"Jack," Alex called, and the student genuinely didn't hear him the first time. "Jack!"
"Huh?" Jack's head finally raised when Kyle nudged him a bit in the ribs.
"Are you listening to me?" Alex asked with a bit of a smirk, and he quirked one eyebrow as he sat on the edge of his desk.
"Yeah," Jack lied, rolling his eyes.
"Really? What did I say?"
"Something stupid, I'm sure," Jack mumbled back and Alex snickered dryly.
"You know, that mouth is reallly going to get you in trouble some day," Alex answered, squinting his eyes and adopting that same smirk and Jack was almost a little intimiated.
Almost.
"Oh, don't worry about me," Jack answered, holding his ground as he ignored all the eyes on him. Alex stood from his desk, taking a couple steps towards the student, still leaving a few feet between them.
"Trust me, I'm not," he answered and Jack laughed a little, going back to drawing penis' on his paper.
Twenty Two
Tuesday, Jack was gone all day on a field trip to a soup kitchen that his mom had signed him up for, in punishment for the four - count them - four detentions he'd recieved in the past month or so and he wasn't looking forward to it, other than it was a day away from school.
His opinion of it changed a bit though when he found that Kyle was coming along for the ride.
"Jack!!"
The elder took a seat on the bus next to Kyle, and the younger instantly resested his head on Jack's shoulder.
"I didn't know you were into this stuff," Kyle said as the bus started moving and Jack offered him a little smile.
"Well, I guess that it's not so bad, so far."
--
Jack got through the day with only a few burns from the hot water and his arm had been starting to hurt from ladeling soup out all day to the homeless. Kyle, by the end of it, was able to get the soup from the kettle to the bowl with such percision that he was being praised left and right for how clean his area was. When Jack's, how ever, looked like someone spit soup everywhere.
The bus ride home was pretty quiet, both of them being tired from the long day, and Kyle ended up falling asleep with his head on Jack's shoulder. Jack didn't mind really, pulling the boy in a bit so they could both be comfortable.
Come time to get off of the bus, it was already 5 pm and after Jack had proded Kyle awake, he gave the younger a ride home.
"Thanks, Jack," Kyle said with a sheepish smile once they'd pulled up at the right address. "You wanna come in?"
Jack, at first, shook his head, but that was before Kyle answered for him, practically dragging him in to the house. He ended up staying and having dinner with Kyle's family, and much to his surprise, he fit right in.
Wednesday morning, Jack was feeling a little anxious. He woke at five am, and spent some time sitting on his window sill, just watching as some snow started to fall.
"Jack," his mom called, started when she found him already awake, and he turned to look at her. "Oh, Jack. I was just coming to wake you."
He gave her a little nod as he stood and she headed out for work. He took his time to enjoy his shower and when he finally came down the stairs, Rian was waiting by the door, so he had to rush to get his jacket on.
They ended up at school just as everyone was heading to their classes and Jack found his way to math. The day went on like that, rushed and hurried until lunch came around. People seemed to be getting used to the snow so most of the kids left the commons to go off campus for lunch.
"Were you guys late?" Kyle asked as he unpacked his lunch box. "I heard you were."
Jack and Rian both answered a "no" simulaniously.
Jack had already been eating his school lunch, which just happened to be the school's prized mac and cheese.
"Nah, we got here just in time, really," Rian informed, and a girl a ways down the table chirped in then, sharing the conversation.
And by the time English rolled around, Jack was feeling the hour of sleep he'd lost that morning.
He only closed his eyes for a minute on the desk, and when he opened them again, the class was cleaned out, the school day finished.
Jack was startled to say the least that he, and Alex he'd found out, after looking around, were the only ones left in the room. The room, in retrospect, seemed a whole lot dimmer than a usual class room, and a lot hotter. The temerature had seemingly risen at least ten degrees.
When Alex turned from the chalk board, his dark eyes landed right on Jack. He didn't say a word, just pulled a half smirk as his fingers went for the first button on his dress shirt, his tie already pulled loose from his neck. He opened his lips a ways, mouthing the word Jack, quietly again and again until sound came out.
"Jack!" Kyle whispered harshly, waking Jack from his slumber. "Jack, wake up."
Jack shot up in his seat, the chair pushing away from the desk with a loud "erkkk!".
The entire class was staring at him, gawking fairly silently. Jack's eyes landed right on Ale though as he leaned against the front desk, eyes wide with an eyebrow cocked.
Fuck shit.
Jack could feel his cheeks go hot, reddening with embarassment.
"Uh, okay. Let's continue, class," Alex said after clearing his throat, going on with whatever he was already doing on the board.
"Kyle," Jack spoke under that breath.
Kyle's eyes wandered over to Jack.
"What happened?" Jack asked, flushing again.
Kyle paused, letting out a little laugh. "You were moaning like a porn star."
