Jack woke up to his mother knocking on the door frame abruptly. "Hey, I'm leaving for work, Jack. Oh and tell Mrs. Cook that her money's on the table."

Jack gave a groan, pulling his down comforter closer to his face in an effort to shut out any noise and light. It was to no avail though because his mother was then opening his thick drapes, letting in the morning sun. "I think she knows by now, Mom; she's been our maid for fourteen years."

"Alright, Jack," she said with an understanding smile. "Make sure you're here for dinner tonight; your sister's coming."

Jack lifted his head from the pillow for a second. "May's coming tonight?"

"That's what I said, now get up," Joyce answered before exiting and retreating down the stairs and out the door with her purse.

Jack let out a huff of breath before laying his head back down. It was Saturday after all and he should be able to revel in the fact that he could sleep in for a while. And it  was a very short while, like Jack had suspected, before Mrs. Cook was at his bed side, pulling back his covers and giving him an apologetic smile.

"Jack, it's time for breakfast," she said gently with her thick French accent before exiting to the next room  and Jack groaned because, seriously, what did a guy have to do to get some extra sleep in that damn house?

He swung his legs out of bed and into a cozy pair of Pikachu slippers that he'd gotten from a store on the strip. He grabbed his glasses from the side table, putting them on in disgust of how much hatred he actually had for them, seeing perfectly clear in an instant of have the lenses over his eyes. He figured that he'd get ahead of himself and wear them all morning so that they were on for watching cartoons later.
He mosied around to the bathroom to wash the sleep from his eyes and then brushed his teeth quickly before heading down the stairs to the dining table where the maid had set a plate of eggs, hash and toast in Jack's place. She was doing up the first set of dishes when Jack thanked her for the food.

"Jack!" she laughed. "Your hair is a mess!" She turned around, reaching over and running her fingers through his raven locks. He rolled his head with her fingers, a smile on his lips as he looked up into her pretty green eyes. She was young, having started working for the Barakat family at eighteen and Jack had always applauded his mother for picking such a well kept, beautiful lady. Every day that he saw her she had her brown hair curled in loose ringlets that draped over her slim shoulders.

"Take a shower after this," she instructed before grabbing her duster and heading off to the living room. He gave a little smile as he forked into the pile of corn beef hash on his plate.

When he finished with his breakfast, he headed to the shower like he was told, stripping himself and washing everything twice over before heading over to his room with a towel still wrapped around his waist. He bit his lip, staring at the phone for a few seconds before completely deciding against even picking it up instead dressing before trotting down the stairs to perch himself onto the couch in front of the TV.

"There you are," Mrs. Cook said with a grin as she stood up straight from bending over to shine the coffee table. "And you look so handsome after a nice cleaning, huh?"
Jack gave her a polite nod before flipping on the television and changing the Chanel to Ren and Stimpy.

He watched cartoons for about an hour before getting bored with it and reaching out his toe to push in the big green-ringed button on his Xbox, picking up his controller with the same foot with precision. He played Halo, the game that was already in, for a couple more hours before Mrs. Cook warned him that she was finished and leaving. He saw her off before tromping into the kitchen to get a drink of something, catching the time with his eye. It was already almost one o'clock and he was started to get hungry again.

He bit his lip because as he saw it, he had two options. He could either call fro pizza like he did almost ever Saturday and charge it to the house, or he could build up a little courage and call Zack to meet him somewhere and get shit straightened out. The latter was the option that made his stomach do painful flips and it kept up until he actually had his hand on the phone. He let out a long sigh, keeping a blank face before picking it up and dialing the number before he could change his mind.

"Hello?" Zack asked into the speaker and Jack squeezed his eyes shut tight, shaking his head that now went blank.

It took him a second to remember what he was going to even ask but when he did, he instantly opened his mouth to say it before he could think about it too hard.
"Uh, hey...Zack," Jack said quietly, rubbing the back of his neck when the other muttered a little, "Hi".

"I just," he started again, pausing to sigh away from the phone. "Look, I really wanna talk about...stuff. Would you meet me at SugarBee's for lunch in an hour?" The line was completely silent for a second, save for Jack's own breathing. He was pretty sure that Zack had hung up and Jack didn't blame him, he was just about to follow suit in defeat when the other spoke again.

"Are you sure?" Zack asked, breaking the painful silence and Jack nodded before answering with a "yeah".

He got dressed before styling his hair to messy perfection, grabbing an umbrella and doing up his black and white cinch jacket before he headed out of the house, locking up just like Mrs. Cook had and headed down the street. The walk was a short one since he lived in the down town area already, a fine mist of rain coming down as he went. As he walked past the front window of the diner, he saw Zack sitting at the bar area, sipping at an orange soda with his legs crossed properly. Jack gave a little sigh, ignoring the nervous bile that was rising in his throat before opening the door, bell dinging as he walked in. Zack spotting him quickly and gave him a blank look, standing from his seat and following Jack over to a booth in the corner. They situated themselves in the spot before Jack finally met the boy's eyes again.

"Hey," he said simply and Zack just nodded nervously. Jack didn't know how he felt about Zack or any other guy other than the fact that most were a tight fuck but if anything was sure, it was that he owed the younger an apology, no matter how much it hurt his ego. After about four years, he was sure that Zack deserved it. "Look, I feel terrible about how I handled the other day, Zack."

"Wow, a serious apology; I haven't ever heard you sincerely apologize for anything," he said quietly and Jack wasn't sure that the boy was wrong; even he couldn't remember ever feeling a serious regret toward the other boy. He swallowed hard before speaking again.

"I know, and I'm still freaked out that you tried to kiss me, don't get me wrong. But I just think that maybe it's," he paused for a second, chosing words carefully. "Understandable."

Zack quirked an eye brow with a bit of a frown, playing with the straw in his glass. "Really?"

"I guess," Jack admitted, staring down at a suddenly interesting spot on the table.

"Can I get you boys something?" A waitress asked, coming up to the table and flipping her note pad open.

"Get what you want," Jack instructed the boy and Zack nodded for a second, eyes glancing to the special's board.

"I want the potato broccoli soup and a hot ham sandwich," he answered, eyes on his silver fork as she wrote that down on her pad and turned to Jack then.

"I want a cheese burger with the works and a strawberry shake," Jack said, eyes on Zack's green ones for a second. The waitress asked him a few questions about his order and then retreated, leaving them in the tension.

"Are you okay?" Jack asked after a second of Zack's silence.

"Yeah, I just feel embarassed that I just kissed you like that," he said quietly, fiddling with his hands on the table top. Jack paused for a second, thinking of what to say before reaching forward and hesitantly taking one of the boy's hands into his own. It just sat there for a second, before he stroked his thumb along Zack's soft skin.

"Well, maybe you shouldn't," he said awkwardly. Though he felt like he wasn't sure about anything, he moved the hand on Zack's to cup the boy's face for just a second before pulling it back. It was a simple gesture but it had Zack's cheeks blush covered and the younger offered a little smile. Jack returned it with a bit of a pursed one before turning his head to the side. He pretended to simply look out the window for a second, though he was really trying to hide how unsure he felt about the situation.

"Mom, May just pulled up," Jack called just as his mother set out the big turkey onto the middle of the table, the smell of sweet meat rising through the house and Jack smiled.

"Get the door for her, Jack. Diner's ready in three," she assured as she poured them all a glass of white wine. Jack nodded, dusting off his black pants as a knock came to the door. He opened it for her, being greeted instantly with a huge hug as she hung her purse and coat on the rack next to the door.

"Smells good, Mom," she said, wrapping an arm around her younger brother's waist and leading him into the kitchen. She was wearing a knee-length purple dress, black belt around the small of her waist paired with a set of shiny pearls around her neck. "Is it Partredge?"

"Turkey," Jack explained as he walked her to the table, pulling out her chair for her and setting her down in it with care. "Mom's been working on it all night."

"And it's finally ready," Joyce said with a little sigh, setting down a bowl of fluffy potatoes next to the turkey and seasoned green beans.

"So, Jack, how has school been?" May asked about a fourth of the way through their dinner and Jack gave a sheepish smile.

"Pretty boring," he admitted as he took a fork-full of turkey into his mouth.

"Well, do you like any classes?"

"I guess English is alright," he said with a nod, remembering that he had homework in the class for Monday and really didn't want a repeat of the day previous with Alex. "I like the teacher; he's into Blink."

"That's cool," May agreed. "Is he cute?"

"Mhm," Jack said with a nod and both his mother and his sister's eyes fell on him in curiosity and Jack froze for a second, mash potatoes halfway to his mouth. "I mean, he totally would be to you," he corrected and it took a few seconds before his family averted their eyes.
