Jack walked back from Sam's room very slowly, staring at the floor, lost in thought. Completely on automatic, he opened his door, not noticing that it was now unlocked, and was halfway across the room before he realised Cedric was there.

"Hi," he said, looking up in surprise. "You're here."

Cedric startles a bit and looks up quickly.

Frowning, he says, "I am. Should I not be?"

"No! I mean yes, you should be here." Jack grinned at himself and closed the distance between them. "I wasn't paying attention, and you weren't here when I got back, so I was surprised. In a good way."
