Sound Attack

It sounded like an animal in distress.
Okay, maybe that was an overstatement.

Perhaps an animal dying?

Overstatement… and cruel.

Maybe an alien distress call?

In the end, it was straight-up sixteen dimensional.

Hongki remembered when he first heard it. He was researching possible days the world was going to end on, and then he swore he heard the fire alarm go off.

“Who left the oven on this time?!” he screamed as he busted out of his room, clad in only plaid boxers.

The ‘fire alarm’ screeched and gasped for air, and Jaejin looked like deer caught in headlights. The scene gave off a very wrong impression. Seunghyun’s shirt was hanging over the lamp; his pants were hanging around his thighs. And the positions-Jonghun was rubbing his ‘hentai’ off on the younger members.

“H-hyung-!” the rapper choked before giving up entirely. Hongki scowled at his band mates before he stalked back to his room. Right now, he just didn’t care if that boy had whips in the morning.

The fire alarm went off again before Hongki could shut the door.

Minhwan thought the Exorcist was coming for him when he heard it. It was the most dreadful sound he ever heard.

“Minhwan, what the hell are you doing?” asked Jonghun, almost breathless. Hongki just stared, wide-eyed and possibly dead from shock. They dropped the bags of groceries on the floor.

Minhwan didn’t pause to explain why he was praying to Hongki’s full-body mirror that was taped to the ceiling.

Hongki finally came back from the dead, “How’d you get that up there?!” He charged at the baby and shook him violently. There could be no possible reason for that kid to be stronger than him. That was always a sign of rebellion in the youngest members. At least that’s what Heechul said. Hongki stopped as soon as he saw the tears brimming in the boy’s eyes.

“It’s coming…” he whispered, sending chills throughout the room.

And it sure came.

Hongki grasped the drummer’s shoulder hard, startled.

Jonghun frowned at his psychologically troubled members. “Guys, it’s just Seunghyun!” He headed towards Seunghyun and Minhwan’s room and practically kicked the door open.

Jaejin had the poor kid in a headlock and was tickling the vocals out of him. Seunghyun had familiar tears in his eyes. He reached for the leader.

“Hyung, help me!” he cried, almost pathetically and Jaejin only tightened his hold.

Jonghun turned back to the damaged duo. “You see?”

That still didn’t cause Minhwan to take down the mirror for a week or so, until their manager waltzed in and started asking which member got a case of ‘what the hell is wrong you and do you need Jesus because he’s on speed dial.’

Minhwan raised his hand immediately.

Jaejin got caught off guard when the alarm clock went off at a crisp three in the morning. Except his alarm clock was still set for another three hours. And it was not ringing.

The bassist was in the process of climbing out of his bed when someone else started yelling (obviously Hongki with his rotation of cuss words and a I will choke that fucking siren out of you eventually) and there was a freakishly loud crash and Jaejin’s door was slammed open and body came flying through, diving under his covers.

Jaejin rolled out on cue as Hongki came soaring in right after, tackling whoever was flailing in the sheets. Minhwan was dragging Jonghun across the living room to come kill some mutant spider and Jaejin agreed to do it even though he hated spiders but an eight-legged killer sounded more appealing than whatever Seunghyun was unleashing with his lung power.

A month passed.

Jonghun was content with the level of peace floating throughout the apartment. Minhwan had stopped trying to give Seunghyun holy water, Jaejin stopped putting the kid in headlocks, and Hongki hadn’t tried to murder anyone recently.

Seunghyun also stopped making those strange noises.

For once, harmony had made its presence.

Maybe that was a bit too much to ask for.

It sounded like one of those blow horns that Hongki liked to put next to people’s ears while they slept. Or just Jonghun, to be more specific. Leader never tolerated much when he was asleep (unless there was a massive camera lens staring down at him; then he’d just mentally curse the staff to hell).

Thankfully, there was no camera and there was no Hongki with a blow horn-he was hunched over by the door, body shaking with laughter.

Minhwan looked absolutely horrified, and Jaejin, completely amazed.

It took Jonghun a few seconds to register that Seunghyun was hovering over him with his mouth forming an ‘o’.

“Morning hyung,” he smiled.

Jonghun closed his eyes with sigh. “You have five seconds to get off of me.”

“He is so dead,” whispered Jaejin who stepped out the room, dragging Minhwan with him. Hongki followed, asking where the video camera was and how many views they’d get on this alone.

Seunghyun had no idea what that meant but Jonghun had a feeling it involved him and a soon-to-be bruised Seunghyun because five seconds had already passed.

A minute in, Jaejin promptly asked if it was safe to wear two sets of earplugs.
