Round 2: Task 1: The Forbidden Forrest

The next day after your arrival you will have a normal school day, the foreign students will attend some classes their headmaster picked for them. There only will be a double lesson of morning classes. The Gryffindors will have Potions with Professor Slughorn, the Hufflepuffs will have Transfiguration with Professor MacGongall, the Slytherins will have History of Magic with Professor Binns (a ghost), and the Ravenclaws will have Arithmancy with Professor Vector. Madame Maxime decides that her students and she will attend a lesson of Care of Magical Creatures with Professor Hagrid and Professor Krum wants his students to attend a lesson of Hogwarts new intern Teddy Lupin for Defence Against the Dark Arts.

After Lunch there will be a friendly quidditch game between the students of Durmstrang and a mixed team of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw players. It is up to you if you watch the game or not.

But the main event of that day is when the Goblet of Fire will choose the most suitable champions for each school after the quidditch game in the evening. Every time the goblet glows it throws out a little paper which Professor McGonagall catches and reads aloud. You might notice that there had been something new added: this year the champions will work together in teams!
The Champions are:
Valentina Feodora Komarow & Johanna Mortensen for Durmstrang
Pandora Marie Belette & Rozelle Ostenaer for Beauxbatons
Emmeline Catchlove & Alexandra Michelle Dranier for Hogwarts
Congratulations to all six of you. Of course some of you are disappointed that the goblet didn't choose you but you still can support & help your school champions

The first task is announced right away: the 6 champions will have to make their way through a certain part of the Forbidden Forrest and find something special. What that is remains to be seen.
Of course all of them need a little preparation for such a dangerous trip. Officially help it is not allowed of course but it always had been done It is up to you how you help your champions to prepare for the task and what the champions accepts as help.

The First Task will take place a week after the Goblet of Fire announced the Champions. Ginny Potter and Oliver Wood appear at Hogwarts to write about the First task and Wood will of course be the 4th judge.

Task

Class/ Lunch

Turns out, Prof. Ted Lupin, is a Metamorphmagus, and very handsome for a teacher! Although I was aware of their existence, I never met one before. It just doesn’t run in the family. His class was interesting, almost as interesting as the Dark Arts class back in Durmstrang. When I thought of the Dark Arts class, I decided I would stay after class and ask him myself. When the class was over I approached his desk. He lifted his head up and looked at me with his green - at the time - eyes.

“Urm… I am Adelina Jacobi, from Durmstrang, sir.”

“What can I do for you, miss Jacobi?” - He smiled at me. “I can see the Durmstrang part.” - He pointed at my uniform.

“Oh, of course.” - I smiled and blushed. “I was wondering if you can explain me the reasons why, here in Hogwarts, there is no Dark Arts class.”

“This comes from back when the founders where deciding on classes. Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw didn’t want it. They were 3 to 1 with only Slytherin wanting it, so they took it out. That’s what the rumors say. I haven’t really looked into it. You might want to ask the headmistress for further information. Is there anything else?”

“No, sir. Have a good day.”

“Good day to you too, miss Jacobi.”

As soon as I entered the Great Hall, Surgey, the headboy approached me. “Adelina, you seem to foget easily.”

“What did I forget?”

“Me. I used to be in Durmstrang just like you and I know everyone of your fellow students that is here, in Hogwarts at the moment.”

“Who said that I forgot you? We never hanged out, but sure I’ve seen you before. I just don’t trust you.”

“Just like most of the Hogwarts students. I’m not surprised. Transferring isn’t easy.”

I sighed. - “I couldn’t care less. Is that all?”

“Urm, no.” - He blushed. - “As the Hogwarts representative, I have to wish you good luck for the game.”

“Oh… Thanks. You too.” - I turned around and walked away arrogantly.

“Adelina, wait!” Now we were walking together towards the Gryffindor table, where I was going to sit.

“What?”

“Have you seen Fedor?”

“We had a class together but I stayed behind. So I don’t know. Also, for your information, we don’t speak to each other at the moment.”

“Oh? What happened?”

“None of your business.”

“That’s a shame. He said he might be interested in a girl, I thought that would be you.”

I shrugged. “I don’t think so.”

“See you around then.”

“Bye.”

I sat down next to Lieven, waiting for lunch.

“I heard Durmstrang met Prof. Lupin today. What do you think of him?” - Lieven asked. I noticed Fedor walked over to our table and sat a few seats away. If I played my cards right, then I would learn if what Sergey said is true.

I spoke a little louder than usual. - “I’ve never seen a Metamorphmagus before. That alone, was an interesting experience. He is young, I mean younger than your average teacher.” - Lieven nodded. - “He is smart and so handsome. I stayed behind to ask him something, and he was really friendly.”

“Hey Adelina,” - Fedor called my name. I instinctively turned around and looked at him. - “Too bad he is a half-blood, huh?” Then he started chatting with the guy next to him again.

Lieven looked confused. - “What’s wrong with him?”

“Don’t mind him.” - He was listening in to my conversation, wasn’t he? I smiled.

Quidditch

Durmstrang won! Everyone was so happy! Sure it was a friendly game, but you have to be happy for your team. Of course that’s what you get when Saffra Petrova is in the main team. Some people believe she will be as successful in Quidditch as Victor Krum was when he was younger. She ended the game quite early by catching the snitch, doing some crazy acrobatics on her broomstick. Everyone was congratulating her, and I did the same, wholeheartedly. Now we have to get back to the Great Hall for the champion selection. On my way back to the school, I bumped into Fedor and Surgey. Fedor tried to talk to me, but I pretended I didn’t see him and kept on walking a bit faster than before.

Champions

“We gathered here, to find out whom our champions are and celebrate the Goblet’s choices…” McGonagall made a little speech before announcing the champion’s names. I was really nervous, almost wishing out loud for my name. I’d show Fedor what I’m worth of!

“For Hogwarts we got: Emmeline Catchlove” Gryffindors started rejoicing for Emmeline. When they stopped, McGonagall continued- “… and Alexandra Michelle Dranier!”- Now Ravenclaws were rejoicing.

“For Beauxbatons: Pandora Marie Belette” -some clapping but obviously not as much as before.- “… and Rozelle Ostenaer”.

“Last but not least for Durmstrang Institute: Valentina Feodora Komarow- rejoicing and shouting from Durmstrang and our Gryffindor friends.- … and Johanna Mortensen!

Everything was a blur after that. Where is my name? Why did the cup not choose me? Why? Fedor would get what he wanted. He would see me humiliated, unworthy. I stood up trying not to burst into tears and started running out of the Great Hall. He saw me, stood up from his seat and tried to stop me by grabbing my arm.

“Leave me alone!” I shook his arm off.
“I just want to talk!”

“Well obviously I don’t want to talk to you!” I didn’t give him the time to answer and ran outside.

Such a disgrace! I couldn’t believe it! How could the other girls beat me? Sure I am happy that Durmstrang is going to be equally represented, but why? How will I face dad again? He didn’t tell me but I bet he was expecting me to be the champion, to make our family proud. That’s exactly what he would say; I wouldn’t be surprised if a Howler arrived first thing in the morning. I don’t have anything against those two girls -both are purebloods-, but I will be so ridiculed by everyone. Tears have been running down my face since I exited the Entrance Hall. I was walking around alone until I found the wooden bridge leading to the gate towards Hogsmeade. It had nice view but I didn’t care, I just enjoyed the breeze caressing my face.

I heard some footsteps, hopefully it will be some other student wanting to enjoy the view of the valley, I thought. I heard some light panting, and my eyes caught our house color as the person stopped next to me. Who else? Fedor!

“I’ve been looking all over the place for you.”

“Fedor, this is not a good time” - I said refusing to look at him. My voice sounded colder than I expected.

“What? Why the long face? Because you did not become the champion?”

“I think the Goblet made wrong decisions. The girls”-I sighed- “are fine. But I don’t see how they are better than me. Why did the Goblet choose them and not me? I feel that this is such an injustice!”

“Why are you taking this so seriously?” He sighed and leaned against the bridge railing.

“First of all, I think I deserve it. Secondly, I want to impress my family. There are so many wizards in our family, written in history for something extraordinary they discovered, invented, brewed… So I wanted this to be my time. Thirdly, to prove you wrong. That a girl can do well in Triwizard Tournament. But hey, I am glad both of the champions of our school are girls.

“Ad, I know I pissed you off about the girls thing. I know I should have kept my mouth shut. I shouldn’t judge girls.”

“Ha!” - I turned around a looked at him, at that moment I felt I hated him. - “Oh look, we got Mr. Regretful now! Seeing as you have no choice but to accept the fact that the champions are girls, you decided to change your opinion!”

“No, Adelina, listen to me!”

“Listen to you for what? Do you have any more theories for girls?” I was getting more and more angry.

“I am sorry, Adelina. You were right.”

I knew I was hurting him but I just couldn’t control myself. “I… I just wanted to prove it to you that I can do it. I didn’t even think of my father when I put my name in the cup! And now, look what I am getting. Just a sorry won’t do Fedor!”

“I know it won’t do, I don’t know what else to say. But I really am sorry. Just calm down, please. ” He was practically whispering, but on the contrary I was yelling.

I took a deep breath; he was right about this part at least. I should calm down. We kept quiet for a few minutes giving me time to calm down.

“Apology accepted.” I finally said and looked at him. “I am just not happy with the selection, so everything is a bit weird. Don’t mind me.”

“I understand.” - He nodded.

“I think I should go to bed, I know it’s early but there is nothing else that will calm down.”

“Well I don’t think you will be sleeping any time soon I am afraid.”

“Why?”- I tilted my head slightly.

“There is a party going on back on the ship. To honor the champions.”

“Oh! I guess I should go congratulate the girls, anyway.”

“Please be nice to them.”- He gave me a light smile.

“Pfft.” -I shrugged and left.

The party

When I arrived the party was at its peak. The mini-Great Hall was covered ceiling to floor in brown and red, honoring our school. Everyone was having fun, drinking, dancing, laughing. I wish I felt half as good. I went and congratulated Johanna and Valentina with a fake smile on my face. I think Valentina realized I was faking it, so I made sure to leave from her side as soon as possible. I sat calmly with the only people from Durmstrang that seemed sober, and got myself a firewhiskey. I needed something strong. That’s when Portia came in. She looked pissed off, and when she walked towards Valentina I feared for the worst.

“Congratulations, Valentina.” - She said - “It’s incredible to see how the Komarows can, once again, overcome a Worthington.”

"Envious Worthington?" Valentina replied. Valentina and Portia aren’t friends. Worthington family is full of Death Eaters, on the contrary, the Komarows are all Aurors. Portia’s dad was caught by an Auror. Could it possibly be a Komarow? And Valentina’s dad was not the same after a Death Eaters curse hit him. Was it a Worthington that got him?

“Yes; in fact I am. You’re the champion! You’re getting eternal glory!” - She grinned. - “Of course, I disagree with the choice. I’m twice the witch you’ll ever be; but I’m going to be a good sports! That’s why I came to congratulate you!”

Portia was now raising her voice. If Valentina didn’t back off, I would have to interfere.

"Well, I won't say that I'm impressed by your good sports, but thank you. I really appreciate this in a triumphant way! Well, the goblet has decided - I AM the best witch in his opinion. That's the little difference between your skills and mine - my skills were valued!" She had this weird smile on her face the whole time, making her look creepy along with the light color of her hair.

Portia shrugged.

“Yes! Good for you! Let’s see if you skills are going to be enough for you to survive; I hope they will, don’t get me wrong! I’m just worried, you see. You’re going through three deadly tasks, and, if you’re anything like your daddy, things can end… bad.”

"You know what Portia? I'll tell you all the fabulous details after I won the Tournament. You can hold the Goblet once if you want to! Oh and then we can take a nice photo and send it to your Daddy, hm? We let him know how far his daughter came..." Seems like Portia hit a soft spot. Valentina was ready to grab her wand.

“Excellent! I can start the letter with: ‘Dear dad, remember the last Auror you tortured and killed?’ - how is that for you?”

"Not as good as the imagination of his frustrated visage while he reads about your huge fail in the Tournament!" I said calmly while I took a sip from the butterbeer, "Daddy's princess failed, his wife has probably someone new and he's in prison until he dies. Tragic!"

“Oh, no, don’t worry! No matter what I do, daddy is proud of me!” -she stepped toward Valentina; her hand was right above her wand. - “You know, it’s not so bad that he’s in prison. No more Dementors there; the place is not that bad. And I can see him whenever I want; I can write to him; I can talk to him.” - Another step. - “Doesn’t it bother you, Valentina? I mean, what he did to your father was unspeakable. Yet, he’s alive and well…”

I got up and put my drink aside. Now I was angry too. These girls don’t know where to stop. I won’t let them draw wands. - “Enough is enough you two! I’ve had it. You either cut it out or I make you!”

Portia looked angrily at me. - “This has nothing to do with you!”

"Adelina go away! That's a thing between me and her!" - Valentina snapped.

“Either you like it or not, I am in charge here. You either stop or I am sending you directly to the headmaster. And I will make sure, Valentina,”- I pointed at her - “I’ll do whatever is humanly possible so you won’t make it even to the first task. As for you Portia,” - now I pointed at Portia- “I’ll have to figure out something, I will ask Professor Krum.”

“Are you serious, Adelina?! I’m just speaking the truth, here! Even softening it!” - I glared at Valentina, my hands now closing around my wand. - “I have a journal where dad describes what he used to do to Aurors; if you ever want to take a look, it’s yours!”

"How childish you can be!" I said bitterly and grabbed my wand tighter as well, "You dad is so alone that he had to write his poor memoirs down now?"

“No thank you, Portia. You know I don’t take part in the Death Eaters versus Aurors thing. - Now I am moving my hand slowly towards my wand too. - “Come on, Valentina! Can’t you two just cut it out?”

“I don’t! But, right now, I’m quite glad for what happened! I’ll thank my father next time I see him!” Portia completely ignored me, and answered to Valentina’s insults.

"You'll be with him sooner than you think!" I snapped and eased the hold around my wand, "But sure...Why don't we keep on celebrating me?"

“Phew, finally.” - I let go of my wand. I was so angry, I was really planning to use it. Use something like Protego to knock them off. “I will have to report it to the headmaster, though. You are not getting away with ignoring me.”

"Whatever will be necessary...” I mumbled and nodded gently, "But for now you have to excuse me, My beerglass is empty and I'm actually quite thirsty!"

“You’re supposed to be my friend.” - She said.

"I am supposed to be a headgirl."- I answered as calmly as possible the given minute.

“I had everything under control, ok?! Anyone could have been chosen; except for her! And really?! You’re going to report me to Prof. Krum?!”

“I will be reporting the whole incident. He will choose the punishment. By the way, you call under control the fact that you were just hoping , she would draw her wand?”

She faked a bitter laugh. -“I can take her. I’ve been waiting for this ever since-- You had no right to stop me!”

“You think so? I have every right; I am the one to blame if our school gets ridiculed by the careless students!”

“And that’s all you can care about. Screw you, Adelina!”

And, without waiting for my reply, she left.

I sighed. Oh well, she will get back to her senses when she realizes I was just doing my job. I grabbed another drink and sat back down. I gulped it down quickly. Fedor saw me sitting alone from across the room; he came close to me and sat next to me.

“Watch it with this, you will get drunk.” He smiled.

“Do I look like I care?”

“What happened?”

“Meh, not much, just argued with Portia.”

“Oh?”

“She accused me of meddling in her business with Valentina. I was just doing my job.”

“I see. You did the right thing. We shouldn’t make fool of our school.”

“My thoughts exactly.”

“Hey Adelina? Have you taken a look around?” - Fedor decided to change the subject.

“Urm… What?

“I mean… maybe you should go put on something more formal, eh?”

I looked around, everyone was wearing formal clothes, but me. With this and that, I was still wearing my jeans, the ones I wore at the Quidditch game.

“Looks like I should, shouldn’t I?” - I giggled.

“Mhm.” - He nodded and smiled.

“I’ll be right back then.” - I got up and went to my dorm room.
