They're reticent at first, each having entertained thoughts about this. She stares at the redhead blankly, neither angry nor ecstatic nor puzzled, just-- nothing. His own gaze speaks for him, the way one gloved hand rests on the bike as if he needs its support right now. One word can restore.
Or it can ruin.
She takes a single step forward, and that blankness is gone, and she's shaking, so that "Spiky-han" possesses far too many syllables than it should normally have. Her heel never touches the ground; she's poised to react if this meeting doesn't actually exist. If he--
"Fuck," he blurts out, with a reverence not generally reserved for that word, and where Kazuha took one step, Crow takes three-- Crow leaps three, and pulls her into something that's more of a lifeline than a hug. Instinctively, her arms find his neck and his face finds hers, his breath emerging in little hot gasps against her ( ... )

But that night, she sat bolt upright, her heart thudding in her chest-- and almost screamed when another figure shot up in the bed across the room.
"K-Kuoo-- Conan-kun!" Her head was spinning and she gripped her sheets in the way she heartily wished she could get a grip on herself. This was the third dream she'd snapped out of within the last three hours, and this one disturbed her the most. Like the first two, it had felt like reenacting yet another weird island event, because there was no way she would have harbored romantic inclinations towards Ayumu (who could have been her brother) and Conan (who was eightAnd there was no way what he had told her could be true ( ... )

A few days later, Kazuha is back on the deck of the Tartarus and beginning to see why Tear likes it so much out here. The sun, once blistering, is fading into a golden, red-orange sky, and the two girls watch it in silence. Kazuha is thoughtfully munching on another one of Courage's cookies, when she speaks.
"It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life."
Tear looks quizzical, but when Kazuha continues, she realizes what she's talking about.
"We were - we are - completely different. Seeing eye-to-eye with a thief, well..." She snorts softly, licks melted chocolate off her fingers. "I think I would have had to come from his world to understand him all the way. And we still fight over stupid things because of that, even if he's not a thief anymore. But when he was... even when we had that huge fight, for all the fights we had, he was trying. No matter what, he always tried. And to try and get through to me ( ... )
