The L Word

So I have just finished watching this weeks L Word and my thoughts on the season are …

It was a pretty decent ending to the season with Bett and Tina finally having their baby. It finished off the pregnancy storyline whilst leaving open for next season Alice and Dana’s relationship issues, Jenny’s mental health problems and Bett’s unemployment ( Read more... )

Oh, now time for my thoughts xandra_ptv May 18 2005, 04:47:50 UTC
I thought the entire season was slow and was disconnected from season one. I didn't buy the cop out of Tonya cheating on Dana, Tonya was a nut last season, she killed dana's cat and now they just forgot about it. Also i don't get what's going on with Jenny. It's pretty bad when they go an entire season and don't reveal anything about it that makes sense. I can't believe the writing has been so poor, but yet i still haven't been able to turn away from the train wreck. I just feel that they are trying so hard to make things easy televison that they forget to actually make it interesting. I mean the most interesting plot they were gonna have this season fizzled right at the start (Kit and Ivan) but they couldn't even leave it there, they had to make it even more contribed, Ivan had a girlfriend? wtf.

I just saw the second season up to 2x12 and to be honest, I can’t still not figure out, how this was a good show in the first season. Perhaps I should try and get a hold on it. But this year the characters were so poorly written, that in the middle of the season, I still had problems naming the brunettes ( ... )

Yes Jenny is probably the worst character written in the history of TV. I dislike her intensely but I get what some of her problems are. There is potential here for an interesting character and people with mental health problems are hugely mis-represented in the media. The trouble is Jenny doesn’t seem traumatised and on the verge of a breakdown to me she just seems pretentious, weird and incredibly self absorbed. I don’t know if it’s just that the character is badly written or the actress is bad at her job. I think everyone else’s acting is pretty good and helps paper over the huge cracks in the character development.

I know the show is made on a shoestring but the whole thing just feels like a media under grads project with its amateur writing, poor lighting, poor editing and the soundtrack put together by someone’s mate who happens to have a cello!

Xandra needs to get into TV pretty damn quick! lol

I thought I got what happened to Jenny when she had the rape-flashback while being in the S+M club and it would have explained a lot. A repressed rape remerging could have explained her weird behaviour previously and strange personality pretty good in my book. But the didn’t address this in the following ep and instead made her strip in a low joint and well, what do you expect? Men are animals but so are women and really, what was that about? Giving us the lesson that drunken men seem like raving lunatics? This lesson knows everybody at the age of 16. I just had hoped that the next ep, featured her on the couch of some shrink and spare us the carnival dreams.

ANd yes, Xandra hurry up and give us back some good TV!

I was a little disapointed in the last ep and Jenny drove me nuts all season too. I totally get you on the lesbian politics conversation. What the hell was that about. Lesbian = Men are evil? eek. I'm with you for next seasons hopes. I want the same refreshing writing there was in season one but what ever happens I'll still watch because the characters are addictive - well all except Jenny of course lol.
