Nothing unmanly about knitting (Open)

The Loft didn't faze him much anymore.

The Once-ler was perfectly content to knit here, especially when his tent was full of wildlife.  It was probably his own fault for installing air conditioning.

After an hour of working though, he began to wish he had someone to talk to, at least, while he worked.

Emil on the other hand liked stitching his own clothes, or at least embellishing them. It wasn't as if he could not ask someone else to do it; he just missed working with his hands sometimes.

He noticed the Once-ler at work. "What are you making?" he asked.

"Something about wiping out an entire species of tree....ruining the air....ruining the water...they were kind of intense about it really."

Naturally Emil looked quite alarmed at this. "That sounds like something went really wrong there...."

He glanced at the Thneed. "I do hope that whatever it is, it wasn't the Truffula tree."

"Er...it probably was, if we're to believe the 'Fuzzy-jumper-apoclypse' crowd."

He really didn't want people he had just met to think he was some sort of scumbag.

"But, it's not going to happen like that, so it's all good."

"Well you know, there's nothing wrong per se with doing business, just as long as it doesn't kill the rest of the world," Emil said lightly.

"Oh where are my manners, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Emil."

"Oh, I know. It's just a little disconcerting to be tried and convicted for crimes you have no intention of ever even comitting."

He smiled.

"Nice to meet you, Emil."

"Nice to meet you too....Once-ler? Is there another name you go by?" Emil said congenially.

"I see that sort of trouble happening all the time; I'm a lawyer by profession."

"Some people shorten it to 'Once'."

He had found people were inspired by his name to go one of two routes: some people decided that he had to have a nickname and strove to find one. Others decided to go the formal route and tack a "Mr." to the front.

"Well what would you like to be called?" Emil asked, feeling this was the most polite way to go.

"Whatever people are most comfortable with." Once-ler gave a light shrug.

"Okay, slight correction: whatever people are most comfortable with that is not a jab at my height."

"I guess I'd have to stick with calling you Once-ler then," Emil said, rubbing his hands.

"I get the height thing too. My friends used to call me the Beanpole."

"Funny, I get that too. Granted, from a two-foot-talking-mustached-cheese-curl, but still."

"A two foot talking....what?" Emil asked, unsure if he heard the Once-ler correctly. "Some friend of yours?"

"The Lorax. He says he's a Forest Guardian and that he speaks for the trees. He's kind of annoying, but, yeah, I'd say we're friends!"

The feeling here is possibly not mutual, save for the 'annoying' bit.

"Sounds quite interesting. How did you meet?" Emil asked. He after all was used to all kinds of bizarre things happening around him.

"I was gathering tufts from the one tree I cut down and he came out of nowhere and started chewing me out, telling me I had to leave, and all of that sort of thing."
