Dree didn't know how long it had been since she'd closed her eyes. She jumped slightly, at the feeling of warm breath on her cheek. "Charlie, stop," she mumbled.

She winced as she rolled slightly, reaching for a better grasp on Harry's hand. "Harry.." She frowned and shifted again, trying to get closer. "Harry.. don't.." Her eyes closed and her chin dropped to her chest.

"Oh.. Harry.." she said, tears starting to fall.

El limped over to the nearest rescue worker. "Please get her out of there. I want her here with me." She shook her headm "I don't care what she says."

She pushed the button on the radio. "D... please, I need you up here. We need you up here." They're all gone.

"He's gone," came a quiet reply.

"I'm so sorry, honey."

El looked over as Trey was walking back, "Trey!" She handed him the radio. "She just said that Harry is gone. You've got to get her out of there."

"And what?" he glared, "bench-press a wall?" As soon as the words were out, he pulled El close. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it." His arm hurt and he was exhausted, but that was no reason to be snapping at his Elly-Belle.

"They had a hell of a time getting the girl out, and she was practically the size of Charlie." He leaned slightly to hold El's chin. "There's no way to get her out without knowing what it looks like in there." If they started cutting, everything could collapse and crush her.

"Charlie, GO," she begged as the noise got louder. The wall was cracking and she couldn't bear to have him lost, too. She pushed the dog away and cried. "Go back to El. Please..."

"I'm scared, Trey." El cried into his chest. "I want her here with us. She needs to be in our arms."

Trey held El as she cried, trying not to cry himself. They'd been outside all day; there was only one spot left on the street to clear - the Council had sent multiple teams and equipment, so the survivors had been pulled out and taken to safety in droves. Medical teams had been caring for wounded all over the planet, all day long. Survivors had even come back into the city center, once the initial danger had passed.

Now, all they could do was wait.

El stopped crying and turned to watch the rescue operation. "I hope they can get her out without hurting her."

Dree sucked in a breath and winced as a very bright light shone in her eyes. She sucked in another breath a moment later, and gasped for air. Reaching out, all she could feel was solid rock. The light was far too bright and she couldn't move.

"Charlie!" she screamed, loud as she could. Everything had happened so fast that it was all she could do to roll herself toward Harry as the ceiling came down. What had happened, of course, was that while the rescue team was cutting a larger hole, the concrete cracked like ice over a lake. She was still under a pile of rubble, but there was at least now fresh air getting to her.

Dree was wedged at the waist; her legs tingling but the weight of the wall pressing down on her hips and stomach. She could hold back the tears any longer and started crying uncontrollably. In that moment, she really wanted to die. And she felt horrible for that thought, but she'd failed the royal family and her Mystic Man... and it hurt so badly ( ... )

El saw the rubble pile collapse in on itself before she heard the crash. The scream tore from her throat, "ADORA!

She clutched Trey tightly, "Oh my Gods, Trey!" she started forward completely forgetting about her leg and groaned when she stood on the broken foot. "Ow.. Dammit, Trey. Go! I'll just be uselessly right here."

She pushed the radio button, "Adora... please... talk to me." She cried, "Tell me you're okay."

The wind was knocked out of Trey as the smoke and dust flew into the air. He let go of El and fell back against a large chunk of what used to be the decorative trim around the roofline of Central Bank. He stared at the street, trying to suck in a breath as he reached for El.

Dree cried out as the workers started to shift the wall. They'd managed to clear a space to get down to her, but, as usual, she was being her stubborn self. If she'd had a gun, she would have aimed it at the men, demanding the take Harry and Della away first. She refused to leave them there.

Chapel had brought around a large blanket, knowing neither El or Trey were going to move from their spot. They'd promised, though, to stay back to the teams could work. She'd moved away at least an hour before, to attend to the Queen's body once it was removed from the stage area.

One of the workers moved over to where El and Trey were still sitting, watching as the second sun started to set. "We need you, please. She's in shock and won't stop fighting us."

"Sounds like she's feelin' fine," Trey said with a snort, the humor displacing the stress. He pushed up and hooked his good arm around El's waist. "Help me with her, will ya?" he asked, since his injury and El's were on conflicting sides.

El took a deep breath when she heard Dree was fighting the rescue workers. She gave a gasp of surprise when the rescue worker hauled her into his arms. She made sure Trey was following. "Why is she giving you trouble?"

"Says she doesn't want to leave before we've recovered the rest of the royals and the Mystic Man. Problem is, we can't get to them with her there."

El smiled, "And she's having none of that excuse."

The blonde man carrying her chuckled, "That pretty much sums it up."

They reached the staging area and El was set down near the edge o the hole on a level platform they'd set up for the men to use. She felt Trey sit beside her. "Adora, honey, it's Elly and Trey. You have to let them bring you up, babe."

Dree closed her eyes, relief washing over her, when El's face appeared in place of the bright lights. She'd heard her voice over the radio, but it just wasn't the same ( ... )

El leaned over Charlie's back as Trey leaned over hers. They probably looked quite the sight, if anyone at that moment would have cared. She looked at the rescue workers as they got ready to move the last of the debris to get Dree clear. "Be careful with her will you? She's very important to me."

One of the men reached and gently squeezed El's shoulder, assuring her Dree would be fine.

El too found she couldn't watch as they began the process of removing the debris. She leaned her head against Charlie's and breathed in his soft furry scent. With a twinge she realized that among the smell of outdoor and rubble in Charlie's fur, she could also smell Dree. It was that scent that she held on to as the machines roared to life.
