Cupid's calling...

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, so what better way to celebrate than with a Valentine's-Day-themed challenge activity? (or chocolate also works)

The CharLoft Cupid Challenge will run until the last day of February.

How's it work? You go to the link above, where a list of six words loosely related to the concept of love will be generated for you. The challenge for this activity is to use as many of them as you can in one piece of fiction, with more points being awarded the shorter the finished piece.

'The shorter?' you say. And yes, I say, the shorter! This challenge rewards precision and economy of language-- it can be surprisingly difficult to use six assigned words in one story, and the difficulty increases when you're trying to do it in, say, the length of a drabble.

If you successfully finish a 'target', feel free to try another (by visiting the page again to get new words), but only one (1) of your eventual pieces will be used for the official tallying of points. At the end of February, we'll put a post up asking you to link to your favorite piece.

Point values are as follows:

Each arrow (word) you use in your story is worth 10 points.

If your story is 1000 words or longer, you multiply the point value of your arrows by one. (That is to say, not at all.)

If your story is 500-999 words, you multiply the point value of your arrows by two.

If your story is 100-499 words, multiply the value by three, and finally...

...if you do it in a story of 1-99 words, multiple the point value of however many arrows you used by FIVE! Force multipliers, go!

Unlike with Winter Bingo, the Cupid Challenge doesn't generate any code for you to post on your LJ-- so if you like the words you get, write them down!

If you've got any questions or anything is still confusing, please ask away! Like all our activities, participation is completely optional.

Speaking of other activities, you can still post a link to your completed Winter Bingo if you haven't already. On the 14th, comments will be closed on that post so we can draw prizes for those who have responded.
