The kind of diner you thought only existed in period movies that tried too hard. Blue Formica countertop, a waitress named Doris who called you “hon” while she slung her coffeepot, unadorned red and yellow ketchup and mustard bottles and a gleaming metal napkin dispenser. The kind of place you would never find on the sleek Interstate, but apparently still existed in some kind of run-down time warp here along Highway 97. 872 miles to Pennsylvania. You absentmindedly peel back the seal of yet another container of half and half, hoping to make it across the border by nightfall.
K’tanya sighed in annoyance and tossed the book aside. It landed on a pile of similar books that had slowly grown larger with each passing day. “Kotori!”
Her spirit companion appeared nearby. “Yes?”
“These books are all wrong.”
“How exactly are they wrong?”
“Well take the one I just finished for instance. The mermaid is supposed to marry her prince and live happily ever after, not commit suicide after he breaks her heart!”
“Apparently the authors did not believe the same thing.”
“Well then there’s only one thing to do. Retell the stories and turn them into a theme park.”
It had been Grayson’s dream first. An Empire ruled by Immortals. Darius had thought it was foolish, as most dreams tended to be, but then slowly he had warmed to the idea. Immortals fought each other for power and for life, but with a leader who could inspire enough loyalty it might be possible.
Darius would need time of course. Time to build, to plan, and to draw other Immortals to him, but he had plenty of time.
Now he saw the possibilities as well, and envisioned such a kingdom stretching from the mountains to the shores of the sea.

“How many times are we going to do this, Wes?”
“Well I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping on cutting it back some. I’ve been getting caught way to often lately. It’s starting to make me think I might be losing my touch or something.”
“You know, you’re right.”
“What?”
“I think you need to take some time and reflect on your mistakes.”
“Reflect on my...”
“I’m putting you on supply duty for the foreseeable future. You’ll be reporting to Squeaky. That should give you plenty of time to reflect on such things.”
“Caffrey, mail!” A guard called as a box was passed into his cell through an opening. The guard stayed at the cell door to see Caffrey open the box.
“Thanks,” Caffrey replied as he got the box and opened it. He unwrapped what was within and dropped the box, staring at what was inside. He could see that it was a positive pregnancy test and a note in Kate’s handwriting - Congrats. Neal just moved back over to his bed and sat down as the guard left him to sink into the reality that he was going to be a father.

Peter sat down at the bench, keeping the time that Mozzie wanted to meet. He opened the paper to the international section and felt someone sit behind him. He raised an eyebrow as he waited. “Well?”
“You two could talk normally,” Neal replied.
Peter turned and looked at Neal. “We could, but that would raise flags.”
“I need help,” Neal admitted very quietly.
“Okay,” Peter replied quietly as he gently squeezed Neal’s shoulder reassuringly. “I’m here. El’s got dinner ready.”
“That’ll help a lot,” Neal said as he got up, knowing he was going to get exactly what he needed.

"Shush you,” Jenna replied.
"I can do much better. And I don't sparkle,” Justinian said as he crossed his arms.
"Shut up,” Jenna hissed.
"Well, I could if you just me the chance,” Justinian said with a smile to her.
"You're not helping yourself by talking,” Jenna said with a glare as she went back to watching the movie.
“You’re not helping yourself by liking sparkling vampires,” Justinian retorted as he settled back into forcing to watch the stupid movie.
