Badru remembers the day Patricia said she was pregnant. He'd been filled with excitement. This was going to be his first child.
When Alice was born, Badru was so proud. He held her in his arms, telling her how much he already loved her. Being a father was going to be great. He couldn't wait to watch her grow up.
Tears splash onto the frame. The photograph will age, but she never will. Alice, stuck in her youth, face lit up with laughter. Badru hugs the picture, imagines what kind of woman she would have grown into. He misses her.
"You should ask me to dinner sometime," said the foxy little number standing before him. She had one hip cocked to the side and a hand on his arm. Her boldness was unexpected and dazzled him. This charming little creature had come around the corner, bumping into him. Badru mumbled apologies but she...well she had just taken control of the situation.
"Now don't you apologize. I'm the one who ran into you," she said. "And I'm certainly glad I did." Dark eyes inspected him, a cunning smile slinking onto her face.

Many viewed her as slow moving and arthritic. They thought her rotundness made her less than nimble.
Mammy had shocked them all back in the summer of 1938. The Fourth of July was celebrated with a huge crawfish boil. People came from every corner to eat good food and gossip.
When the sun went down, music poured out of the fellowship hall. Mammy hiked up her skirt and stepped onto the dance floor. Her feet moved swiftly and gracefully under her weight. Sweat formed on her brow as she shook to the music. Onlookers cheered, whistled. The hall filled with applause.
Drabble 41, prompt 66 - Red Balloonisland_julietJuly 10 2010, 12:49:00 UTC
When she’s falling, she feels a little like she’s floating and her mind drifts to a time when she was eight years old. It’s the last time she can really remember her family being together. It was at a park and her father got her a red balloon.
“Don’t let it go, Julie. Hold onto it tight. Don’t let go.”
She hadn’t meant to, but she’d seen something that surprised her and her fingers came unclenched from the string, and the balloon floated up into the sky. She wasn’t sad, she didn’t ask for another one.
K’tanya hated making decisions, especially when the assortment of choices all seemed like such good ones. How was she supposed to choose one when they all looked so delectable?
On one hand, the White Chocolate Frangelico Mousse looked absolutely divine. Yet the Dulce de Leche Caramel Cheesecake also seemed to be calling her name, as did the Black Forest Torte. Then of course there was the Tiramisu, which had always been her favorite.
Unable to decide, K’tanya finally ordered one of everything off the dessert menu. After all, with her fiery metabolism, it’s not like she would gain weight anyway.
Richie just looked at the priest, his mouth hanging open as he tried to comprehend what he had just heard.
Darius was rather amused by the boy’s reaction, even though he had more or less expected something similar. “Are you all right?”
Slowly Richie’s mouth closed and he nodded, although it took him a few more moments to find his voice again, and a few more after that for him to do the calculations in his head. It still boggled his mind. “So all this time you’ve been a priest and…nothing? Not even once?”

Jeanine licked the spatula, and gave her best innocent look. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said, slowly inching away.
"Oh really? Maybe I need to show you," Amara teased, dunking a finger into the batter.
Jeanine squealed and brandished the half-licked spatula. "I warn you, I'm armed!"
"Bring it!"
Batter flew through the air. They shrieked and giggled, the idea of baking forgotten, Jeanine whisking Amara off to the bedroom.
They made something that night, but it sure wasn't cupcakes.

“I take my vows very seriously.”
