The prospect of seeing mornings made him think, they made him worry. Life, to him, was just a long journey into nothingness, sparsely populated with moments of sheer joy and relief.

Oh my, what an absolutely perfect description of Kunzite's outlook on life! Moments in, and I already feel like I completely know Cairo, with his awesome name and his sadness and his secret hovering over the lives of his loved ones. You can absolutely feel that moment of joy and relief when he sees Darien's car.

Okay, I think I knew about Mina, but Ace as Beryl's bigshot husband! I absolutely did not see that coming, but it is absolutely brilliant!

And the interaction between Cairo and Mina? Absolutely flawless. Hot and cold and pushing past defenses and so many comments that would be absolutely cruel if said between anybody else, but between them the insults are almost like displays of respect. I love it. You must teach me your ways.

Gorgeous. I like this chapter even more than the last one, and I didn't think that was going to be possible! This gilt/glam world is a wonderful contrast to the cop world of the first chapter.

Oh Cairo! It's only the first paragraph and I already feel worried for him. I love this characterization of him not liking mornings, which is such an interesting and unusual detail. The more I think about it, the better it fits.

I'm going to guess that Mimi is Ami. Yes?

*gasp* Ace and Beryl are married!!! How do you make Ace so perfectly, realistically detestable? I just want Cairo and Mina to get together now so they can both stop having such angsty lives. Eek, they already know each other!! And he told her she looks stunning!!! I really love this interventionist Cairo, or as Mina puts it, invasive.

I love the Cairo/Mina chemistry, and then we get THIS LINE!!! “You don’t want me to." Everything stops there.

She's afraid that Beryl's dead!! What's Ace's hold on Mina? Does it have to do with Beryl??

Love the absolutely cozy picture of the Zuckerman homelife (and the name! Just right, Not too serious, almost a little bit whimsy). And then the SWITCH into the sex and swank of Ace and Mina. @.@

Also- ... was that a George Cukor reference? >.> (The gay director friend).
