My talk actually ended up fairly close to the above, though the small-choices bit sort of morphed into the topic of always being able to choose: just because you choose one way, one day, doesn't mean you can't reverse your course the next. (Simon Peter being the big example of this in the New Testament; can elaborate if desired.)
