Oh Charis. You are so nice to us. All these fics!! Demon/wizard cross must have some very interesting talents. It'll be interesting to see how Arath is able to change the first impression he gave Poof. I'm looking forward to it.

It's almost like you read the story I didn't get a chance to type yet. I forgot about the way to make someone a temporary familiar, but Jay has a better idea. I also have the part about being defensive over kittens, but with hisses and sharp claws. And the not calling the kittens by their names. And the nursing kittens that weren't born to them (like a lesbian couple I read about).

Now for your story... Arath is very forward, but then he is a (part) demon. The asking/telling the parent they want to court the kid without ever asking the kid if they want to be courted is condescending, but maybe proper etiquette where he's from.

Kormier gives good advice. I hope Poof takes it.

Yep, Arath is new to this plane from the Demon one. He's not culturally in sync yet but he's trying very hard to be respectful by informing the parent he's met of his intentions.
Oh he's not condescending, he's confident and there's this special glow about Poof that says he's 'The One'.

Don't know how things will go with this yet. It's still percolating. Kormier does give good advice. Whether or not Poof will remember as things get going.... slow courtship. Poof is still very young/naive.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. Demons are very good at taking advantage of people who know better. Poor innocent Poof doesn't stand a chance of having anything close to an equal relationship unless he has a lot of luck.

Poor was immensely embarrassed by "The Talk". I wonder how embarrassed he's going to be after his fathers explain demon courtship.

There has to be at least one book in the Library at the Academy on it. Maybe even a special advanced textbook that will be purchased for the purpose.
Arath knows Poof is too young right now. He'll be protective, probably overprotective, and friendly with a side order of making sexually inappropriate remarks. Slow courtship.
