The wail of a small child got closer, Newt. How was he supposed to do yoga, or try anyway, to relieve stress if the cause of that stress was currently crying.

“Um, Newt is hungry,” Simon began, “and … Newt, baby, Daddy Andy is busy right now can we delay the crying for now?”

“Hungy!”

“I know but Daddy Andy is doing something, see?” Obviously Simon had pointed a small skink in the line of sight of Andy.

Sighing, Andy walked himself back up to a point where he could roll himself into a standing position. There was an unusually quiet snake-familiar in the room and a giggling small skink who happened to be his supposedly hungry son.

“Daddy do funny. Uut tie too?”

“Yes, Baby Newt can try too afterwards maybe if you’re still awake. How’s your diaper?” Andy gave to that area of Newt a sniff, thinking that, for the very active young, diaper changing seemed like a form of yoga with all the swift contortions that they could move their bodies into.

“I checked him before I brought him in. He was clean and dry. Is that normal?”

“Uut cleene and dye. Hungy.”

“I just fed you.”

A small lip popped out, “Hungy.”

“Alright, you little weed. Let’s go feed you. Maybe Papa Simon will feed Daddy while we’re doing that.” It was a hint, a big hint. Multitasking had become his forte.

There was a loud swallow sound from the direction of Simon that made Andy turn his head as he passed him. ‘Oh,’ Andy grinned evilly. ‘Well some of those yoga positions did have possibilities to them. Mentioning Simon feeding him probably had also encouraged certain thoughts.’

“I changed him right after I fed him this last time. The number of diapers he’s gone through today, I don’t think we have to worry. No we don’t,” Andy jiggled Newt playfully, “do we?”

“Uut, cleene. Hungy!”

“Alright, alright. Let me just wipe down. Daddy has been sweating a little. You’re too young to worry about salt intake but you don’t need salt in your diet to stimulate biting.”

“HE’s got TEETH?”

“Not yet. But it won’t be long. He’s developing faster than a human baby. I’m hoping that he doesn’t grow fangs while he’s still nursing. Humans grow in their front four teeth first. What did you do?”

“Don’t remember much about that time. Think we should to get some mice and keep them in a terrarium next to his bed? Might entertain him too.”

“So not bugs?“

“Hmmm. Maybe he’d like an aquarium instead. He could hunt the fish.”

An aquarium appeared a few days later and a couple videos, set on a continuous loop, played on the large screen TV of a snake hunting fish, bright golden fish. It was a hit with Newt, who sat watching without blinking for long periods of time. And occasionally they’d catch Newt looking at the fish in their fish tank, considering.

Simon thought it was a stroke of genius because really Andy in some of those yoga positions… they might be needing to research more names of offspring.
