It made Andy do a double take and then, after confirming what he was looking at, relief. Of course he’d had to dig his fingers out of Simon’s arm afterwards.
“Ouch?”
“Sorry.”
“Want to tell me why you tried to sink your fang like fingers into my flesh in a non-sexy situation.”
“The angel.” Simon’s eyebrow rose in disbelief so Andy shook the arm so recently released. “The angel in the graveyard.”
Turning towards the peacefully quiet church yard, with its neatly kept green grass and headstones, Simon surveyed the scene. “Ah, yes there is a statue of an angel. Interesting.”
“You’ve never watched the Doctor Who episodes with the weeping angels, have you?”
“That statue isn’t weeping. Statues don’t weep. They’re stone … usually. Think there’s some made of wood or plastic or,” Simon’s face brightened, “or gold like that award show. They’re not alive. They can’t cry,”
“SIMON!”
“Who’s this doctor anyway?”
“Oh that does it. We’re in England so they’ve got to have a copy of Blink available around here somewhere and we’re going to watch it! ALL OF IT!”
It was a smug Andy, who walked oddly if anyone was noticing, his arm looped through Simon’s as they walked down the lane beside the churchyard. He pulled Simon to stand in front of the statue and stood with his side toward the angel because… just because. He put his hands up over his face in imitation of a weeping figure and doubled over in giggles as Simon recoiled.
“SEE?”
“Don’t ever do that again!”
“Do what? This?” His hands started moving towards his face again but Simon grabbed them holding them down at Andy’s sides.
“I need more therapeutic sex. We have to go back to our room.”
“Okay,” because Andy wouldn’t want a neurotic snake familiar lover, now would he?
“So we’re going to back away from the statue slowly at first and when we’re far enough away we run for it.”
“Simon, you can’t outrun a weeping angel and this one’s not even weeping.”
“That first part’s worse. Okay back away slowly now...”
Andy’s giggles carried between the quiet graves as he and Simon finally reached the roadway. Back in the graveyard there was a sigh of relief. The angel put its hands over its face. It wasn’t weeping. It was giggling.
