Well it's not a vampire's lair. The windows are too large. Anyone could just wander in with a stake.

Struggling up through heavy mists of unconsciousness Rowan opened eyes gone blurry and crusted with sleep. Dark wood rose above him and in the center crystals trailed and looped. It took him a while to see well enough to realize it was a chandelier and the wood a canopy of an ornate bed. He shook his head and pressed the heels of his hands to his eyes trying to make sense of it and perhaps hoping that whatever it was would change back to his own bed in his own room. It didn’t help, he found. Same heavy dark wood, same chandelier hanging from that canopy and wasn’t that the strangest thing. Who the hell would put a chandelier in the center of the wood canopy of a bed?

“I see you’ve finally wakened,” a voice said and Rowan made a search for the person that it belonged to.

There was movement as a man rose from a seat and stepped from an alcove near the bed. “Do you remember how you arrived here?”

Rowan’s barely, even to himself, audible voice replied, “no”.

The man stilled and then smiled, “well, good. It’s always nice to have unexpected guests. It caused no end of confusion when you arrived along with your bed in the center of my study.” He pulled a face, “luckily there was nothing and no one in the way at the time.”

What answer could Rowan give but a nodded head and a croaked, “yes. Where am I?”

“Well presently you are in my study,” he stopped and grinned. “Do you have any memories of how you came to be here?”

“No,” Rowan faintly answered shaking his head. “I remember a forest and a dark enclosed space with a small hole to see through and a,” he hesitated, “a white rabbit?”

The man’s grin got bigger. “Oooooh yes, those white rabbits.”
