“Let me show you the rest of the house,” Leon dragged him along. “It’s not all as coldly ornate, some of it is fussy ornate. Wait til you see the stairway that goes absolutely nowhere but up.”

They stopped in front of a spiraling staircase with thick wooden columns and yes it was ornate. There were capitals in every style it seemed, Ionic, Corinthian and for good measure Doric thrown in wherever the builder or homeowner wished. Jessie looked up, spotting a lone painting mounted discretely on one corner of the top landing and a couple windows to light each landing. He quite like the large oval on the lower landing, the other was framed by more columns.

“You sure that it doesn’t go anywhere?” he couldn’t help asking. “Seems an awful lot of expense and work for nothing but a view. And why the painting?”

Leon grinned, “well we had to put something up there. And it is pretty kitten friendly; all those places to peek out from.” He paused his grin increasing, "alright it does go up to my room."

Laughing Jessie grabbed Leon’s hand, “don’t suppose that you’d want to give me a more intimate tour,” he whispered rubbing a finger between two of Leon’s the movement hidden in the clasp of their hands.

From somewhere floated a stern, “No bedroom tours until after the mating ceremony and you’re both going to graduate before that happens. Don’t make me wake Minxy to act as chaperone.”

Rolling his eyes and his lips silently mouthing along with his father’s voice, “You know that never turns out well,” Leon’s father continued, “a sleepy cranky Minxy is a many needle pointed fur demon.”

Jessie’s eyes got round and he mouthed, “fur demon?” at Leon.

“He’s exaggerating,” was whispered back, “Minxy is a perfect little angel except when he doesn’t take his nap. He becomes very … needy.”

“Climbs pants legs?”

“Oooooh yeah. And shirts. And he sucks on earlobes if he’s not nibbling on whatever part of your head happens to be near.”

“Is that where you get that from?!” Jessie grinned at him.

Mock frowned in return, “don’t make me scratch you.”

“As long as you kiss it all better…”

“Anything above the collar bones and hands only,” floated up to them.

“Your father has great hearing,” Jessie said.

“Yes. Yes, he does.”

“Have to have when you’ve got kittens and if you think that’s bad, wait until you try to have romantic times after the kittens start arriving.”

“I’ll buy the house next door to this one after we’re married,” Jessie promised. “I’m sure that your parents will love watching them from time to time.”

Laughter came from downstairs. “More like they’ll be sending my siblings over to us,” Jessie grumbled. “Notice you haven’t met my other parent. He’s sleeping with the latest kittens. Twins,” was said darkly.

“I love you,” Jessie kissed him. “We’ll build a mosh pit nest for kitten playtime and I have a laser pointer. We’ll get by and by the time we can get married, at least one of your siblings should be old enough to be bribed to watch them.”
