The Terrorist in My Backyard

May 09, 2007 02:45

The news reports have been coming in all day about the Fort Dix plot. Terrorists planning to buy weapons, to kill US soldiers. Islamic extremists on a jihad. The news reports showed police bravely bursting into the ordinary looking homes where these terrorists hid among us, and court sketches of bearded foreign men being arraigned for their crimes ( Read more... )

I just want to tell you how much I applaud both you and your son for standing up for the family.

All families have 'black sheep'. So there's happened to be blacker than most.

I, too, am VERY greatful that the attack was thwarted. Not just because it would have been another attack on US soil... but also because this attack would have been closer to 'home' (even if only for the next 3 weeks) and I have family that works at Fort Dix.

While I feel that those that were involved with the planning and training associated with the 'thwarted attack' - as the media seemed to like to dub it tonight - to the fullest extent of the law. I do not believe that that means that every member of their race, religion or family is guilty by association. Thinking like that will only turn us into isolationists, which will create an even bigger problem then we already have.

*hugs to you, your son and his friend*

First, I'm proud of your son, too. Strong boy. Second, though this may just be speculation on my part, you may all want to steel yourself against the whispers, hatred, etc, that will come from other neighbors. They may not be as understanding as you and your family. Only time will tell, but if harassment starts, I might suggest a family meeting to unify your approach to the world.

Thank you for making me proud of my country again. You are neighbors I'd love to have.

Way to go. How often these people in the media scream about terrorists, illegal alien menace, and fear mongering.

I am glad that there are some people who will continue to support the family. I am sure they will quickly find out who the real friends are, and know that your son is one of them.

I don't necessarily disagree with your actions.

But to state that there is no danger in letting your son go over to the house because the young man arrested for terrorism was no longer there is naive.

The bottom line is that you really don't know until all of the facts come out.

I applaud your show of support for the family. But understand that you're allowing your son to take unknown risks.

Great post, Laura. I wish more people in the world were like you and your son.
