There was a bomb at the Wal-mart where Aus works today. Instead of letting employees go home, those sick corporate fucks made them stand in the parking lot for five hours while the police swarmed around and the bomb squad came and found the bomb ( Read more... )

A month or so ago we got shut down because we had a water main break or something. People were out in the lot waiting the whole time for us to re-open in 3 hours. And they wouldn't let me go home and come back later, despite the fact that they didn't need me w/o customers and I was not yet on the clock. I hate Wal*Mart.

As if it would have been so terrible to send the employees home. I probably would have just left. Ugh.

In bomb cases, it's pretty much SOP not to let anybody out of whatever perimeter they establish until it's safe. Getting in to an area like that still requires that you have a damn good reason ( other emergency support types and the like). Granted, my last in-person experience with this was years ago, but the terrorist-happy USA mindset ramps up all the normal caution about a million times. It's not just an evil corporate ploy, I'm afraid.
