i've never really taken to sketching, in the same way that i hate practicing a musical instrument...i don't like to do anything for practical reasons even if it makes you better in the long run. i also find sketching things in the real world to be less fun for me than going directly to colorful paints and imaginary landscapes ( Read more... )

I have to add that the best erasers are those cutesy kid's ones that usually come in silly shapes and colors. Not those horrible paper-tearing pink ones or the gum erasers which act more like Silly Putty than anything useful. Sanrio used to make great Hello Kitty erasers that smelled good when I was a kid.

The reason the gray gummy ones are awesome is that you can shape them into little precise points of precision! (But I'm totally an obsessive detail whore!)

Nice sketches.

I find your hatred of art and sketch supplies to be really funny. :)

thanks :) i didn't take any classes in which drawing was a component (i was an english major) so over the years i only really drew in ballpoint pen in the margins of a page about chaucer or differential equations.

however i really want to go to dr sketchy's some time this spring!...real people, sitting relatively still, is something i don't see very much!

Ahh, I feel the same way!
I can't stand trying to keep up with a sketch book, it just does not work well for me. If I'm working on something and it is turning out well I want to finish it up and have a final version, not start over again.

I often feel like my lack of drawing/sketching ferver just shows that I was not meant to do such things. (Some sort of art, yes, but maybe not drawing/painting) So it is good to hear from someone else that feels the same way!

The goal right now is to work on painting/drawing when I have free time from ambigrams, now I just need to figure out what I want the subject matter to be.

it's comforting to know i'm not the only one who feels that way too! sometimes when i'm happy with a sketch i can't actually replicate it in the same way in a 'final' version so if something is going well I like to make it for keeps!

Exactly!
I think the only kind of sketchbook I could keep would be really rough/quick sketches of ideas, not actual drawings.
