Character Name: Fern. Genre: Not sure what you'd call it, but when one adult-ifies and adds more details to a children's story, lol. Describe the Character Physically in Your Own Words: Her hair was still fair, as was her complexion even after so many summers uncovered in the sun. One Line Description of Character: The natural cycle of death and birth had carried on at the Zuckerman farm-- from the spider Charlotte who passed without notice from humans, to Wilbur whose grave still stood kindly decorated with wildflowers when someone thought to adorn it-- but Fern Arable was not dead, only fifteen years older. Tell Us About the Character: Fern of the well-known story "Charlotte's Web" returns to her uncle's farm as an adult, recalling the memorable summer of the original story and observing that notoriously "cruel" farm life is not nearly as cruel and cutthroat as the world she lives in today. Wilbur has long since past and the farm has fallen
