Well spoken. My mom refuses to use autism or even Asperger's coupled with me. She feels, and these are her words, that "You're just wired differently. So, yes, you can be eccentric, tactless, and off-the-wall, but you're so well adjusted to be autistic." Ironically, she was the one who helped me deal with the world.

Without my mother I would have been blind in one eye, permanently cross-eyed, had a speech impediment, and most likely incapable of bonding independently with my peers due to non-understanding of social interactions. She recognized my clumsiness right away and from a young age helped work me through it without 'mimicking' as you've described. She was my biggest supporter and I'm thankful she didn't let the doctors naysay her or prevent me from pursuing my ambition to enter the Gifted program despite a counselor's doubts.
