Redbook: "Living with Autism"

For those of you who don't know, Redbook is a magazine aimed at women in their twenties and thirties. Most of the articles have to do with the typical women's-magazine things--weight loss, sex, fashion, boyfriends, husbands, and occasionally "serious topics" like breast cancer or sexual harassment. On a related note, I've never quite understood why people seem to refer to everyone "living with autism"...but the actual autistic.

I remember telling the Autism Diva, Ms. C., that I was thinking of making a t-shirt with the slogan "Neurotypical Women Frighten Me!" on the front of it. She said she felt the same way about the NT wimminz, just thought my choice of words wasn't quite right for best propaganda effect.

Apparently, the child was supposed to be her stuffed animal, with no consent as to what she did to him, no feelings, no preferences or sensitivities of his own. I'm sure many children sentenced to child-labour and strange people touching them all the time will scream; its a good thing that there are plenty of vapid celebrities around to comfort their parents from the sight. I hope one day she too finds out what it is like to be a labrat/prisoner.
