Today I'll be joining an online vigil for the 2015 Day of Mourning. The point of the vigil is to commemorate people with disabilities who were murdered by their families and caretakers--killed by the people who were supposed to protect them.

I'm over at the virual vigil as well. Next year I expect to attend one in person. I've given two talks about disability advocacy in the last week and brought up caregiver murder at both of them - hoping to raise awareness among "disability professionals."

It's a truly great article: thank you very much for it. I suppose it applies to old people, especially people with dementia, too -- at least, to a large extent. Due to my expirience with old relatives and neighbors, who were neglected and killed by their caregivers, I know perfectly what you are talking about. Your article contains so many valid points about which we are all often forget: "The more the disabled person is neglected, the less the killer sees them as lovable", "The killer is the one who is making the judgment that the victim's life is not worth living" or "Other killers have identities that seem to have enmeshed themselves with their disabled child's." All this is very thought-provoking and inspiring, so thanks again.
