On Musical Education

Jan 21, 2008 14:31

Today's educational topic is music.

To summarize: Music is good.

Now, I like music. I played instruments in elementary and high school. I sang with choirs. I enjoyed musicals. I even just got myself one of them iPod doohickies and used it to get music off of some tubes somewhere.

And now, the fine print... )

gaming, pictures, music

awesome! simply awesome. i bow to thee, hans-sting.

i am not brave enough to try either of those games, but fortunately, my cowardice remains hidden because no one i know owns either so i couldn't play if i wanted to. that said, i can admire the skill of others from the sidelines, so again i say, "awesome."

I am certain you can muster up enough bravery to get out on stage and perform. Most of my bravery comes courtesy of Liquid Courage. You should get some of that. It's tasty sweet. Also, you know you want to be Sting too. Everyone does.

Rock Band is made of awesome and win. Guitar Hero still rocks, but not quite as hard as Rock Band. I bow before your bass/vocalist skillz. :P

I agree. Guitar Hero is awesome in its own right, but a four-player band experience is not to be missed, and it offers a host of new options. And worthy is the one who can lay it down on the drums at any level above easy; I am not he.

I've discussed this with my sister-- who by the way, is Sorceress of All Things Video Gamed-- and although I can in reality play guitar and sing at the same time, I'm pretty sure if I tried to "Rock Band" play guitar and sing at the same time, I would fail miserably for quite a while. I've done the Guitar Hero thing, and I've done the vocal thing (on Karaoke Revolution, one of my favorite games EVAR). So I think I could totally rock the face off the game once I got the hang of it, but it would be funny to watch me flail the first time.

In other related news, I just bought a Guitar Hero II for PS2 bundle for $50, and am just waiting for a good price for PS2 to have my own private Guitar Hero marathon.

I still maintain that GH2 has better mechanics than GH3. GH3 has a better song list, which is of no small import, but GH2's statistics mode, where it showed you exactly where you did well and where you did not-so-well, as well as a practice mode where you could then work on the not-so-well sections, was a valuable tool that is sadly lacking in GH3 and Rock Band.

Singing and Guitaring is harder than it seems, no lie. It helps immensely to know the song in advance. And to be able to sing more or less on key. Those were two of my major hurdles, I'll tell you...

True-- if you've never played Karaoke Revolution, it's the singing part from Rock Band. I've played it quite a lot. Even the middle level on KR is rough, I don't think I've tried the expert level, or whatever they call it on that game. And I CAN sing! It takes a lot of practice...

Yeah... I've never played Karaoke Rev or Singstar, but I'm sure that my skills would be questionable at best on either of those. I like singing, but unlike my wild Rock fantasies, I am not really Sting-like. ;-)

*grin* I was like you once (only instead of Classical my only knowledge lay in oldies and country) but then I started working at a radio station and learned things about pop. And now, with Supernatural as one of my favorite shows, my repertoire has expanded again to include classic rock. And I've discovered that 80s power ballads make me grin like a fool.

There is nothing wrong with 80's power ballads and anyone who says otherwise IS DEAD TO ME.

*grins and big hugs!*

One of the first things I did when I got my iPod was download "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Carry On, Wayward Son." Then I listened to them over and over.

I know "Carry On, Wayward Son" is not an 80s power ballad. I just love it to death, is all.

Wayward Son was one of my first iPod acquisitions as well. I will not mock you in any way, shape, or form.
