So, last month I went on vacation to that West Coast I hear we have. You might already be asking, "Gee, update on time much?" Yeah, well, sometimes you just get lazy. Just for that, here's a long photo-intensive story. Serves you right.

I do love me some tasty Nature, it's true. Nature good! I need to do more of that kind of thing around here. Hit up the Appalachian trail, or the Poconos, or stuff. Must have more nature!

oooh, Mountain Bike... that's much more advanced than me. All I have are these two legs and some sneakers.

That first pic looks like a Manzanitas tree. The bark is used in Native American medicine to make a tea to help with MENSTRUAL CRAMPS!

I spent a lot of time as a kid running around in EXACTLY that kind of terrain.

First off, complaining that there was no water in an ephemeral creek is just silly. You went at the start of the rainy season. If you were dead-set on seeing water, you should've waited until March.

Those are called digger pine cones. When weedweasel & I & all our little friends were in our peak fort-building days, we used to collect those things, pile them up at the tops of certain trails, & rig them so they could be released upon anyone climbing up said trail. It was one of our best booby-trap ideas.

I think fizrep is snacking on buckeyes. They actually don't taste very good.

This is fizrep we're talking about. He can't help but eat. That tree could've been poison sumac and he'd be all "Scratchy... but so hungry... om nom nom."
