A while ago I posted this and then I paused for feedback and to let things stew for a while... so long, in fact that I figured that the topic might seem less relevant by the time I got around to posting about it again, but (not-so-sadly*) that doesn't seem to be the case.

So here's my N cents on the subject, from a specific-to-me point of view.** ( Peek behind the curtain here. )

I've also never had any harassment or other negative con experience as a women, but (while I don't think this should make a different at all) I dress specifically to be unmemorable at cons, I'm not conventionally attractive, and I "walk like a New Yorker," (frequently because I do know where I'm going, and I'm late.)

I also avoid areas where harassment is more likely, like hotel bars or late-night parties. (Or...certain web forums.) I still think I've been lucky and I try to pay attention when I'm nervous, but fandom's been a thankfully safe place for me as well.
