I've been reading more of the books I got, and I found something strange. The book Professor Klarth gave me actually mentioned Ratatosk! There isn't much, but it says Ratatosk was a squirrel that ran up and down the world tree, called Yggdrasill, delivering messages ( Read more... )

You're possessed by a squirrel?

I'm possessed by somebody, at least. It's only happened once, so I don't really know much about it, and the same goes for Ratatosk. I think a lot of what I know so far is thanks to Professor Klarth.

So...you're possessed by a squirrel.

Now I know this place has gotten weirder since I came here.

If he really is a squirrel, then...yeah, I am. It's not as if I asked for it!

Hey, uh...
Mind sharing what that book had to say about Yggdrasill?

There was more on that! Um, let me check the book.

Yggdrasill was supposed to be the world tree for people called the Norse. It was huge, and the tree supported nine worlds. But there were things feeding on Yggdrasill, and that harmed the tree. Eventually it was supposed to die, which would be one of of many disasters--something called Ragnarok. The book also says that it's possible that the tree helped a couple of survivors live through everything for a new beginning, so there was a little bit of hope even after everything that happened.

Does any of that sound familiar to you, Lloyd? I can lend you the book if you want to read that part.

Uhhhh... No, that's okay. Me and reading were never exactly best friends, if you get what I mean.

But yeah, some of it does... just that the tree I know only holds two worlds together. I think. 'Least no one's said anything about more than two.

And I don't know anything about the Norse or Ragnarok. I wonder if something could really be feeding on the Giant Kharlan Tree...? Maybe that's why there isn't enough mana for both worlds.

[In way over his head.]

The Giant Kharlan Tree? Is that supposed to be Yggdrasill?

It's a long story. He's supposed to be some kind of spirit. I think he came from the same place I did.

... A spirit, you say...

((Aaaaaaaaah that was exactly the book I had in mind when I was thinking about the present. It was originally gonna just be a book on 'mythology' until I decided to add the clarification of 'specifically on demons' but yeah.))

Really? I must confess, I skimmed some parts. But that's quite interesting -- Perhaps irrevelent, but interesting. Anything in there on the other summon spirits? Or Yggdrasil?

There's something about Yggdrasill, but I don't see anything mentioning summon spirits. Do you have any names I could look for? There are a lot of those.

Sure.

[Klarth rattles off a list.]

Undine, Gnome, Sylph, Efreet, Luna, Aska, Shadow, Volt, Maxwell, Origin.

There's a couple of those names mentioned, but none of them look like they're really related to one another. I don't see anything about summon spirits, either. What exactly is a summon spirit, anyway?
