[fic] Aeolus

May 25, 2010 22:41

If you recall, for the creative component of my final project in Joyce/Beckett, I wrote about Hamlet characters in the style of Joyce (or tried to, at any rate) - specifically, patterned after the seventh chapter of Ulysses, "Aeolus." Just now, I thought to myself, "Well, if I wrote fic for class, I might as well share it." (Hey, at least I'm not ( Read more... )

-- What do you suggest I take instead?
Bitten lip, seven inches and then five and three and two and one, and Laertes and Hamlet without any space between them at all.
-- I see, said Hamlet.

I LOLED SO MUCH AT THAT.

THIS IS AMAZING AND FANTASTIC. OMG. SON I AM APPROVE.

Jealous that you got to write this for class. :P

... Wow, I just reread that bit, and it comes across way pornier than I thought it did. AHAHAHAHAHA, OOPS.

Whatever, I bet my professor is secretly a slash fangirl. |D

I just love the frankness of it. "Oh, I see your kiss, and raise you a slapped ass!" Like that. :P

If the class involved Hamlet at all.... she must be a slash fangirl. Obviously. :P

Well, much of it involved Ulysses, which contains Hamlet references up the wazoo. The entire ninth chapter is pretty much solely devoted to Shakespeare fanboying.

So if Simon and River are Laertes and Ophelia, is Jayne Hamlet? Or is it Mal?

AWESOME job. I think I like your Joyce better than Original Flavor Joyce.

I think Mal has to be Hamlet by default, though the idea of Mal chasing River's ass is kind of disturbing to me.

Awww, thank you!

On Yuletide treasure there's a disturbing number of fics that ship Simon and Jayne. And Jayne and River. I don't know... I think River is more like Artemis, the kind who would rip you apart with her brain your own hounds if you saw her nude. (Wait, does that make Simon Apollo? He was the god of medicine...)

Now you make me want to post my Virginia Woolf essay on LJ - the one i wrote in the voice of Oscar Wilde.

Leopold thinks there should have been more farting.

Zoe loves your writing to bits and pieces. This is fantastic, Andrea. I cannot believe you wrote epic Hamlet fic for that class. <3 x a million

Leopold always thinks there should be more farting.

Thank you! I can't believe I wrote Hamlet fic for that class either. I can't believe she let me get away with writing Hamlet fic for that class.

Er, and that would be... the wrong journal. Oops. What I get for being excited.

Ironically from the pup that is really very fond of Shakespeare in general and Hamlet in specific, sparrows falling, the lot.

I don't know Joyce and Hamlet made me furious because I'd read R&GareD and had unreasonable expectations, but I believe this fic has piqued my interest in the former and near-converted me to the latter. Clearly I need to read Hamlet again. I never thought I'd say that.

This was beautiful and slashy and poignant and thank you so very very much for sharing it.

... Oh, you've written other Hamlet fic. I'm not even going to try to resist.

... And of course I only just noticed this comment over a month after the fact. Good going, self. That said, hi! I'm not sure if I know you or not (I don't believe we've met, but forgive me if I'm wrong), but thanks for dropping by. I'm really pleased that you like this - the style was a tad difficult to wrangle, but fun once I got used to it. The other Hamlet fic I did is (obviously) done in a rather different writing style, but I hope you enjoy it all the same.

I read Hamlet back in high school, and didn't like it much myself for the longest time. Then I played Ophelia for a college production, and fell in love with the whole damn play. *shakes head* As for Joyce, I'd say his stuff is an acquired taste, but certainly worth a try if you're a book-loving kind of person.

Hello! You're right, we haven't met yet. Your username looks familiar, though. Possibly from the yuletide archives. Anyway, it's nice to meet you.

By coincidence, I actually found my way back over to your journal again just yesterday via this comment. I wanted to express my interest in the entry, but thought it would probably seem a bit creepy. I suppose I'm expressing it now?

I very much enjoyed your other Hamlet fic and I suspect I will enjoy its canon more the next time I read it. And there will be a next time now, so thank you for that. :)

Oh hey, you're a L'Englverse fan too? Nice. I think the entry I was talking about in that comment was this one. It doesn't say much that I didn't already say in the comment, and it's f-locked, but that shouldn't a problem, since I took the liberty of friending you (as we seem to have similar interests). Hope you don't mind. :)

And thank you for the lovely compliment!
