What can Adam Lambert sing this week?

Theme: Songs from the Year they are Born (SFTYTAB)

Adam Lambert - January 29, 1982

1982 is a FINE year for music. The musical "Cats" began its run on Broadway, spanning 18 years. Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney released "Ebony and Ivory". Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album was released. The first compact discs appear in music stores in Asia. Of course, Madonna's recording career begins when she signs to both Warner Bros. Records and Sire Records. But 1982 is also the year when ABBA disbanded.

disclaimer: i might fangirl excessively. or be irrelevant as hell because i enjoy a good lot of the songs on this list.

Adam Lambert is as good as the American Idol. He wow'd the judges with "Black and White"; boggled the senses with "Ring of Fire"; surprised everyone with "The Tracks of My Tears"; and shattered expectations with "Play that Funky Music", a performance that he allegedly put together less than 24 hours before Idol Tuesday because "Don't Stop Believin'" was robbed from himGnarls Barkley's "Crazy" wasn't cleared for use.

Kara DioGuardi said that she goes to work and could not wait to see what Adam does next. I believe that a lot of viewers are with her in that sentiment. American Idol viewership rose after Country Week. I firmly think that Adam's "Ring of Fire" performance contributed to that. It was... is so talked about that even professional music people began to voice out their thoughts about it.

So what is in store for us this week, Adam? Like Paula said, "True genius shatters [expectations]". You're lucky to have a great list to work with.

Adam being the musical theatre guy, I will start there. As mentioned above, "Cats". Jason Castro already did "Memory" and I don't think Adam will touch it (or any show tunes unless it's the theme). "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" opened in Broadway. The London revival of "Pirates Of Penzance" opened and if you are an Adam fan, you know that he did this in a school theater production. And *shudder* "Grease 2" was released on film. Ugh, what I would give for it to be "Grease 1" so he can possibly do "Those Magic Changes" or "Mooning".

Okay, can I just LOL at the best-selling single of 1982 in the US? All together now, Let's get physical, physical... I wanna get physical, physical... FORLY? No, Adam. Not even YOU can pull that off.

I almost spewed my coffee on my laptop when I read on a blog (comments page) that "ZOMG, Anoop sang a Britney Spears song?! ashfkahfkhd..." I was like WTF? Haha, "My Prerogative" is NOT a Britney Spears original. *headdesk* Now, for a chance for Adam to sing a "Britney song", "I Love Rock 'N Roll" by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. Oh, I can so see him stroke the mic stand again ala-RoF.

One of my favorite songs is "Eye Of The Tiger" by Survivor. Not just on this list, but of all time. This is also my favorite AI audition bloopers. I forgot which season, I think it's Season 3, when this song was massacred by a reject. It was HI-LA-RIOUS! This song has that high note in the chorus that Adam can soooo kill. He has the voice for this. A similar sound is "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago. Again, that Steve Perry-ish voice and range, Adam can kill it. Not to mention the lyrics are so swoon-worthy.

Okay, I didn't know "Up Where We Belong" came out 1982. I remember Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood sing this so awkwardly. Ugh. Unless you're doing "Elephant Love Medley" for Moulin Rouge, don't do this song. Or maybe if your name is Scott MacIntyre.

(group song suggestion) "Mickey" by Toni Basil. Nah, I'm not trying to injure Scott. It's a fun song. Okay, Ford Music Video suggestion then! XDD

(VERY special mention) "Never Been to Me" by Charlene. By far, my favorite one-hit wonder. The lyrics are CRAAAAAZY! "Took the hand of a preacher man and made love in the sun... I've been undressed by kings and seen some thinks that a woman ain't s'posed to see... I spent my life exploring the subtle whoring..." But *blush* I know all the words -- except the spoken interlude. LMAO.

Soft Cell's cover of "Tainted Love" is also on the 1982 list. Holler to Season 7's Danny Noriega! IF Adam does this, make sure to be on Twitter to read Noriega's reactions! I'm not sure if he still watches the show but I think he will if word gets around that Adam is doing this song. That's added viewership for you haha.

(special mention) My favorite instrumental: Chariots of Fire - Vangelis. *applauds*

I've been reading this song choice in a lot of blogs: Rosanna - Toto. I had to listen to it again to judge for myself. Meah, Eye of a Tiger > Rosanna.

As if he needed the Anoop fans to shift over to the Glam side, he can take a dive with Willie Nelson's version of "Always On My Mind". That way, he can sing a country song in a country style on a non-country week. LMAO. Or to Matt Giraud's fans: "Human Nature" by Michael Jackson. If anything, Matt's best live performance for me, was this song.

*grabbed drool bucket*

So they've cleared "Don't Stop Believin'", see. Will this mean that they will finally clear the most coveted song of American Idol history? *drumroll please* "Open Arms" by Journey. Constantine Maroulis sang this on the final round in Hollywood; it wasn't aired. Several people used this as audition pieces but were not aired as well. Will someone FINALLY sing this song and be aired? Will that someone be ADAM LAMBERT? Stay tuned.

We've seen an over-the-top Adam, sensual Adam, unplugged Adam, and disco Adam on the show. How about some alternative Adam, maybe? With Tears for Fears' song "Mad World" -- gah, I LOVE THIS SONG! I like the Gary Jules and Alex Parks versions of this song.

As if Adam needs more to woo David Cook fans, he can mix up Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf". I like DC's version of it, even if I wanted "Teenage Wasteland" to be recorded instead. But this song can also prove suicidal. Ohwels.

(special mention) "It's Raining Men" by the Weather Girls. Could've been a great group song for the girls. If there are any left. HAHA.

(group song suggestion) "That's What Friends Are For". Only... it was already done back in season 1.

OH. MY. FG. And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going was released 1982. I cannot believe it. O__O;; I have nothing more to say on this.

I hope Adam chooses his song wisely and exceed expectations again.
