Dear Livejournal,

April Fool's Day is tomorrow, April first. It is not March 31st at 7:07 pm.

EPIC FAIL FUCKHEADS.

No love,
Me

What'd they do?

Also, my work email from today says it is all from this coming Friday. I suspect foolery, except usually university servers don't play these games. *looks askance*

This - automatic LJ-cuts that limit you to 140 chars before hitting a cut, and friends-page notification of your friends' every LJ action such as uploading a userpic, etc. Some people are pointing out that Our New Russian Overlords were already into tomorrow when that went up, but...no. I can't imagine that April Fool's is that big a deal in Russia, so why not post it for the English-speaking world at an appropriate time?

Also, I totally just hate April Fool's.

It was probably set to post at a certain time, and their servers run in GMT.

There's no mention of a huge presence of April Fool's Day in Russia, however. There certainly is one in the English-speaking world.

Oh, were you talking 7pm your time? Or 7pm Eastern time? Because at 7pm EST, it's already April Fool's in London, where people, you know, speak English.

I actually have no idea. Despite setting my prefs to PDT, I get a LOT of stuff that comes through GMT/UST and ... I basically never actually know what time anything's happening. It just kind of happens in order, I guess?

That April Fool's thing is stupid. In a general, I'm grouchy and you're acting like an idiot kind of way. This is part of the reason I'm staying home and going back to bed.

My very favourite is when half the world likes to act like you're insane for disliking this stupid excuse for a holiday.

Yeah. Because I'm just not that into jokes and making other people look like they're retarded, obviously I'm a wet blanket. *snorts*

But it was already April Fools' Day in Russia.

A) Already pointed out - by ME, even.

B) YOU find evidence of the presence of a prank tradition in Russia, then, if you feel that it's so amazingly important that the EN side mirror the RU side. I can't find it. The best I can do is an April Fool's tradition in Aunt Poland.

But by that stage it'd been April Fool's in Australia for about 10 hours, and we were all bored of it already. *G*

Actually, I like that we get a lot of time to warm up to the date before the pranks start flowing on the internet. It's our unfair advantage.

See - okay, first of all, I don't generally like April Fool's anyway, so I admit that I have that bias - but I feel like it's really OKAY to have things not go live at midnight. Some of it is that in the past I've been in the same timezone as LJ, so I suppose I'm spoiled because of that, but the "live-at-midnight" thing just confuses me, and I know it's more than just LJ, but I'm mostly only on LJ. I wouldn't've even known about the Gmail one without someone telling me.

And, frankly, I'm kind of gunshy about LJ anyway. I mean, that one was super, super obvious, but they've done some really boneheaded things in the past.

I hate April Fools. I'm really glad I usually get twelve hours headstart on the world for it so I can see the fucker coming. *G*

I was actually having a conversation with qthelights on Wednesday afternoon about how all of LJ's recent announcements have been such varieties of stupid that it was tricky to spot the real bullshit. Sad but true.

Yes, that was a large part of the problem - the brain trust that brought us that new userinfo page COULD decide that those things were improvements! Note to LJ: if your April Fool's joke is too plausible, it's not a good one.

Someone in my apartment building actually nearly gave me a heart attack by saying that our rent was going up 10% and we were now responsible for water, sewer, and garbage costs. FORTUNATELY, they explained before I could actually dial the landlady and turn in my notice (because I can't afford that and don't want to deal with it) that it was a joke, but - this is why April Fool's is NOT FUNNY.
