Okay.

This is something that has bugged me for-fucking-ever, and that most authors, I think, don't actually, consciously think about. Hell, I don't like to think about it, if only because anthropology as a discipline has gone so ass-over-teakettle about identifying potential ~influences on one's work that you practically can't get to the essay

This was really interesting to read. I haven't been in bandom long but I agree with you on how Gabe/William/Bert always get to be villians. It would be lovely to see more authors take on the aspects of their characters that you've mentioned. I wish I could find good primers on those aspects of their personalities. Gabe seems to have led a really interesting life in terms of dealing with finances etc.
