4th Sacrifice - Preparations

[Phone | Everyone}

Hello again.

It may be bad time with what Mayfield has done. But I wish for some help.

I am not much of baker, and wish to make large batch of cookies for upcoming holidays and winter solstice. Something for the children to get minds off of what has happened.

Anyone willing to help with this?

[Coming home from the store -- not for a grocery errand, but a simpler one that involves all the periodicals she could find for a research project.]

[The smile she flashes at the man on the sidewalk is friendly, but tinged with wariness.]

Don't know, I haven't smoked since college either. Probably better off without knowing.

[She was wild in her youth, but has tempered herself a bit and grown up.]

Ah, I never quit.

[His nicotine stained fingers might be a good sign that he's been doing this regularly for decades.]

Anything exciting happen in that near decade?

Couple of wars, first black president, couple more wars... More stuff moved online, massive recession...

[Yeah, it's kind of a bummer of a decade.]

Online, yes, young people's new god.

Wars and recessions will come and go, again and again. I have lived through many of those.

Black President is new for country though old for world.

Pretty big news for us. Still a bit of a mess. Not a lot of people can deal with it in a rational way.

[She shrugs once.]

But people are like that.

People that don't go with change get left behind.

I would not worry much about mess. It will pass like all others.

Though that is not here, here we are stuck in stagnation. I think this won't last either.

I don't know that I'd call Mayfield stagnant all the time.

[The bombs were not stagnant.]

It is trapped in time from what I hear. One year is no different from last.

Little tricks and games do not have lasting effect on town, just us.

Good to know. I haven't been here too long, myself.

Know it can't last. Not forever.

Nothing can.

[That was an odd way to put it. She's not quite sure how to take that.]

I suppose not. Well, I'll let you get back to your walk. It was nice to meet you.
