I found that Soon I Will Be Invincible was great when it focused on Doctor Impossible, but the Fatale parts were a bit too deconstructionist.

I suppose I just want to read a modern story where the heroes are actually heroic, both in-costume and out.

I've only read about fifty pages, so I can't speak to Part Two, but in general, I tend to agree.
