Yeah... end of third season (I think) she ran away to Rwanda and found out her mother had been held prisoner for years by the militia, and wasn't allowed to contact them on pain of death, or something. Then she came back and Shirley had both parents again, and it was dull. Woe. :(

Y'know, now that I think of it, part of the "on pain of death" thing might have applied to Shirley. Like, they'd go after her daughter if she talked. Which makes Shirley and Veronica even more identical than I previously thought, holy crap.

Mad love for that show. Mad, mad love. Didn't her mother coming back end up causing the show to be cancelled in the middle of the season or something? I forget. It was a while ago.

Y'know, that never occurred to me. I am sure that Shirley was a better character when she was angsting, so maybe the ratings dropped and they cancelled it because she was angstless. It all makes sense now! O.O

calantha42 found somebody on line a while back who had .avi copies of the entire series on disc... but they seem to have vanished from the face of the net. This is tragic, as now we must begin our search anew. (If we got it, we could torrent it! *glee*)
