It differs with all religions slightly; but essentially a period of reflection in which one 'speaks' to the Gods they believe in is supposed to convey their wishes to the deity. It's--it's supposed to work. I don't do it often, not really.

I believe that the Gods we believe in surround us anyway, and if they are truly Divine, they will know what we need and provide it or at least a means to achieve it.
