Okay, so the deal with Nightworld was that it was building up to a big culmination back in 2000 for the millennium, which was a big underlying plot thread throughout most of the books. However, before the final book in the series came out, someone in L.J. Smith's family got sick with cancer, and she lost her muse, and was therefore unable to write. It has been 10 years since a new Nightworld book has come out. During that time period, L.J. only began talking about continuing the series in the last year and a half, so it hasn't been something she's been promising and not delivering. Quite the contrary, for many years she said she wasn't going to continue because she couldn't focus on her writing ( ... )

No, the only ones I've read so far are the Night World books. Have ordered the first vol of Vampire Diaries, because that was cheapest on Amazon!!

And she is so much better than Stephenie bloody Meyer!

The vampire diaries are pretty damn good. The only series of hers that I read and didn't quite enjoy was "the Forbidden Game." that one was a little hard to follow (and also VERY CREEPY) but fun creepy.

She is so much better than Stephanie Meyer that just thinking of them in the same context fills me with rage. Then again, thinking of Stephanie Meyer generally makes me want to hurl, so there you go.

If you are in the states, most public libraries have her older books in their young adult/kids section, if you want to save on the $

LOL I sort of assume that SMeyer makes EVERYONE want to hurl (or at least laugh their heads off) and am always saddened and disappointed (and a tiny bit concerned) when this isn't the case.

Hmm - I read the Nightworld books more than 10 years ago, and have been waiting for the finale ever since, so I won't believe it until it's on the shelves!

I liked the Vampire Diaries (not the 4th one though) and the Secret Circle better than the Nightworld at the time - I should probably dig them out and read them again so I can develop a middle-aged perspective on them! : )

I'm also waiting for the next Jean M Auel book - she took 12 years to write the last one, which came out 8 years ago, and that's without family illness or anything, as far as I know - sometimes it feels like authors just give up halfway through serieses.

... which is always a shame! I do it myself, natch, but one always expects better from proper writers!

I can't actually believe people have already commented on this *L* Yeah, the last book was supposed to come out in 1998 but someone in the author's family got ill and it never happened. She's been talking about it again lately and it's due next year, I think, and is apparently supposed to be huge. I wouldn't hold my breath though and given the Vampire Diaries continuation she published earlier this year, I certainly wouldn't expect it to be any good. STILL, I LOVE THE NIGHT WORLD! EVERYONE FINDS TRUE LOVE AND THEY ALL OVERCOME THEIR BAD SIDES AND LIVE TOGETHER IN HAPPY, CLAPPY LOVE. YAY!

You realise that you must now read her other stuff? It is required of you now that you've read the Night World books.

Yeah, you've totally lost your title as my LJ Smith Go To Girl... *g* Ooh, I hope it's good if it comes out - it could be epically awesome!! And surely there are always more people who need to discover their soulmate and go all weak and dizzy and tingly with a hitherto unknown pschic connection...?

I will be reading the first vol of the Vampire Diaries next, and will move onto the Secret Circle afterwards.

Nuh uh! You can't demote me. I refuse to allow it!

The Vampire Diaries has Damon which is just YUM and The Secret Circle has a blatant (I say blatant...) sex scene so you have good times ahead of you, Squeenie.

I am breathless with anticipation. Or has my soulmate just appeared? WHO CAN TELL?

Hi. I've been lurking around your journal because I really love your ST fic, but I've been too shy to say anything - until now. But! How can I be quiet about this? THAT LAST BOOK. I AM 23 YEARS OLD. I STARTED READING THOSE WHEN I WAS 14. IT'S STILL NOT OUT. DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH.

....ohhhh, I can't waaaaait for it. I've been dying to read it for years and yeeeears.

I'm really glad you like them :D And I really can't wait to see more village!fic from you! Those stories make me flail and scream laughing. You're an awesome writer :D

Aw, thanks! I have about a million ideas of sort of village!verse themes but none are really grabbing me at the moment. Hey, maybe they can beam down to a planet of slightly sarky, slightly tormented vampires... *g*

Hmm. I laugh, but I think I like it...

I... may have to seek out these books.

I do want to check out The Vampire Diaries, because I saw the trailer for the show and it looks awesome. And I am a sucker (no pun intended) for vampire fiction.

(anyone read Sunshine, by Robin McKinley? It's one of my favourites.)

and... OK, YMMV... but the Vampire Diaries trailer looked a little bit like it was Twilight, if Twilight had been done by someone with brains and actual talent. Also, TVD may have made me reevaluate Ian Somerhalder. One trailer, that's all it took. Darn.
